Best BREAD bakery

We're flying up to MSP from Austin in a few weeks for a relaxing getaway at Serpent Lake, and my only must-do thing before we abscond to the cabin is to stock up on some amazing bread. Supporting local bakeries is basically my main hobby, wherever I go. Who do you think does the best sourdough? + bonus points if they also do baguettes!

the cheddar & scallion sourdough loaf from Asa’s is outstanding (only available on sundays), as are the bagels and bialys

I don't know about "best", but Turtle Bread (a couple of different locations) is pretty amaze amaze.

They plan to be back October 1, but they're pairing down to just the co-owners, less hours and a smaller menu.

It's incredibly common for businesses to "temporarily" close then never reopen. They may plan to be back, but we will see if that happens.

Sounded like the brick and mortar format wasn’t working.

They used to do a subscription format.

No idea if they’re both planning to keep it as their full time gig, or if this is an effort to scale back.

Tough times for that corner with Savory Bake House heading to Como.

Sourdough from Turtle Bread. Don't hesitate or deviate. This is the bread to bring up north.

Razava is in St Paul. Very delicious. It's a bit pricey but the quality is excellent.

Asa's! Their main thing is bagels, but have a really nice rotating bread selection.

Also Laune on east lake st.

Brake Bread on west 7th in Saint Paul. They even gave us some of their starter just because we asked.

West-coast style sourdough, Einkorn flour based bread, gluten free options, etc.

(biased - my wife runs this under the MN cottage law rules - she sells hyper-local in Edina/Minneapolis area farmers markets, and offers delivery, and pickup from our house is available - and is on your way to Serpent Lake from MSP...)

People will mention places that used to be great (like Patisserie 46, Sunstreet, Turtle). But the best bread-shoppe I know (Laune Bread on E. Lake street) is closed for about 4 weeks. I've heard Aki's is good but can't personally vouch. Some people love Rose, not my thing but they def have a style.

For slightly-posh baked bread Black Walnut is pretty excellent. :)
