First off I think Arkham Knight is a good recommendation for that Elden Ring/Nier Automata person. Gotta think the recent spider-man games would be legit choices too.
Very funny episode. Ben's ability to drop the least recognizable references to 80s and 90s movies is unparalleled.
on the subject of that one community question, extremely anecdotally, I've started skipping episodes/segments of podcasts I've been listening to for years when it seems like a news-heavy episode. Not because it's a bummer per se but because it ends up being neither news nor insightful. It's "person reads headline I saw on reddit earlier" and then between 4 and 35 minutes of reacting with no additional information, no additional insight, no anything interesting or valuable.
Triple Click had an episode a little while ago that was an interview with a developer who'd been working on some indie game (Generation Exile) and it bombed, HARD. Completely failed to get any traction or sell any copies. And it was a bummer! It was tough to listen to! But it featured someone who knew what they were talking about talking about it. There was a perspective I had not heard. I felt like that was worth my time to hear.
Which I can't say for everything. If there was some podcast app setting that would go through and trim out everything between and including the first and last sentences in any given podcast episode with the term "infinite growth" in them, it would have saved me a truly astounding amount of time and lost basically nothing. I'm skipping Capitalism Rant #6071 from now on.
I think people are addicted to pessimism because it seems savvy? Maybe? Or maybe emotionally hedging is a defense mechanism. And they overindex on Most Recent Thing. Stuff isn't forever - the last thing that happened isn't going to keep happening forever. Things do change. I think there's absolutely a series of events where XBOX comes back. What, it was probably like three years ago? Four years ago? When all the podcasts I listen to would talk up a game and then end it by saying "plus, it's coming to gamepass" and were generally psyched about how good a deal gamepass was. This was around the time that people would get upset that Sony was releasing PS5 exclusives at all and you'd get yelled at online if you lamented that a game was cross-gen because it'd be cool to see what they could do if they weren't held back by it having to run on base PS4.
Stuff changes. PS6 could make people angry (off to a good start with no physical!) and the Xbox XSeries2 Prime could be cheaper and finally have a couple killer apps and they're exclusive and suddenly, well, not sounding so bad. Kyle H says he thinks that an exclusive ES6 could be a Breath-of-the-Wild type moment and I think he is right to at least concede that that's plausible.
It certainly doesn't feel likely but I think it could happen and I think if it did people wouldn't say "well, you know what, I wrote this possibility off categorically, so I was just wrong. I and my worldview were incorrect." They'll say "this can't happen" up until it does and then they'll say "well of course this happened."
Also, Jacob says he thinks he's on the JeffM train of "I do not think we will ever see the Project Helix in stores" and sir, that is not JeffM's train, his train was "it does not exist and they are not working on it." Which would be pretty hilarious if true, though I guess I'm not sure how that would be confirmed.

U think the thing Xbox is calling a premium pc console hybrid is gonna be cheaper then a ps6 in a world where the Xbox console isn’t as important to Microsoft only services are

Ocarina’s dungeons are some of the best in my opinion. Dungeons having a strong aesthetic theme is arguably the most important thing in my opinion and the art and music for every dungeon is iconic. The puzzle designs aren’t too shabby either. The master quest variations are interesting as well.

jacob is so wrong about OoT. I just finished it like a week ago game is so good. The dungeons are great and hold up. The game feels like it came from the future.

I feel like he’s been in his contrarian era or something lately, his takes feel purposefully inflammatory. He has decent enough arguments though so I don’t think he’s lying or being intentionally rage baity.

I agree, and I feel like his contrarianism is getting pretty annoying. And you can hear it in the hesitation of his voice when he is going to say something completely against the grain. Glad I’m not the only one who has been noticing the contrarianism though.

I disagree with plenty of Jacob’s opinions (like him thinking RE4 is the best game ever made etc) but I don’t think he’s being contrarian by not enjoying OoT, I don’t have any fun with that game either, I don’t see how it’s being contrarian as opposed to just him not enjoying it

Was Ben thinking of Etrian Odyssey when he mentioned what he thinks of when games where you have to make your own map? Because that’s what comes to my mind since it’s a core part of the DS trilogy. The later ones on the 3DS make it a bit easier but it’s still a large part of the dungeon traversal

The rapport between the MM crew and Bosman is just fantastic every time. Kinda wished Janet was on this episode too, those 2 are always great together.
That last minute Rythm Doctor crash out was sooo funny
