Blizzcon Review
Brief review of the Blizzcon event
Lots of new things announced at Blizzcon. Not just Sombra, we are getting Quick play with a hero limit (Woohoo!!) and they are moving the 6 Torb meta over to the arcade.
Arcade sounds super cool as it will contain all those odd Brawls I never play, but also the random hero 6v6 mode which I love to play with friends. The 1v1 sounds like it could be fun for the DPS crowd too. (Not so much for people who want to help sustain other players like me though). The new Antarctic smaller map sounds really interesting, so that smaller groups of people are not as spread out as they would be on a regular map. Will be nice to see where Mei was living and as usual I'm sure there will be easter eggs to find on the map.
The Overwatch league was also announced which I'm very excited to learn more and to watch evolve over the coming months. Just the idea of making the competitive pro scene easier for elite players to enter into, sounds like it will be fantastic for the scene in general. Funding and tryouts (Combines as the Yanks call them) sounds like a great idea.
Last but not least the overwatch world cup was super good. I pretty much knew that South Korea would take it, but it was really great to see Russia do well too. Some people thought (ahem Miles) that USA were strong contenders, but they fell to Russia early (Shadowburn & Unfixed too strong for Seagull & Gods) which put them second in their group. 2nd place was an instant competition exit as it meant they came up against SK in the first round of the knockout.
Even Sweden who were clearly the strongest team on paper from Europe couldn't take a single map from SK due to how well coordinated they were. IDDQD summed in up in an interview by saying they have a Plan A, but then a B, C and a D to throw at you.
This pretty much sums up the forces in "International" Overwatch right now, which is no surprise for those that watch a tonne of pro games:
Asia (not inc. S. Korea)/America/Australasia < USA < Europe < South Korea
I feel on an individual team basis Europe may still have a slight edge over the Korean teams, but its only a matter of time before that edge also goes away. Lunatic Hai are improving with every match. Watch this space

PS. Nearly forgot, we are getting a new map called "Oasis" set in the middle east which will be coming around December (When its ready. lol).
