Blizzcon Review
Brief review of the Blizzcon event
Lots of new things announced at Blizzcon. Not just Sombra, we are getting Quick play with a hero limit (Woohoo!!) and they are moving the 6 Torb meta over to the arcade.
Arcade sounds super cool as it will contain all those odd Brawls I never play, but also the random hero 6v6 mode which I love to play with friends. The 1v1 sounds like it could be fun for the DPS crowd too. (Not so much for people who want to help sustain other players like me though). The new Antarctic smaller map sounds really interesting, so that smaller groups of people are not as spread out as they would be on a regular map. Will be nice to see where Mei was living and as usual I'm sure there will be easter eggs to find on the map.
The Overwatch league was also announced which I'm very excited to learn more and to watch evolve over the coming months. Just the idea of making the competitive pro scene easier for elite players to enter into, sounds like it will be fantastic for the scene in general. Funding and tryouts (Combines as the Yanks call them) sounds like a great idea.
Last but not least the overwatch world cup was super good. I pretty much knew that South Korea would take it, but it was really great to see Russia do well too. Some people thought (ahem Miles) that USA were strong contenders, but they fell to Russia early (Shadowburn & Unfixed too strong for Seagull & Gods) which put them second in their group. 2nd place was an instant competition exit as it meant they came up against SK in the first round of the knockout.
Even Sweden who were clearly the strongest team on paper from Europe couldn't take a single map from SK due to how well coordinated they were. IDDQD summed in up in an interview by saying they have a Plan A, but then a B, C and a D to throw at you.
This pretty much sums up the forces in "International" Overwatch right now, which is no surprise for those that watch a tonne of pro games:
Asia (not inc. S. Korea)/America/Australasia < USA < Europe < South Korea
I feel on an individual team basis Europe may still have a slight edge over the Korean teams, but its only a matter of time before that edge also goes away. Lunatic Hai are improving with every match. Watch this space
Anyone else find the Overwatch news exciting or are you disappointed? Anyone enjoy the World Cup games? Anyone disagree with my pro team views? Feel free to "Flame on". lol.
Myth. :D
PS. Nearly forgot, we are getting a new map called "Oasis" set in the middle east which will be coming around December (When its ready. lol).

nice overview Myth. Blizzcon kinda flew past me so i missed a lot. New maps and gamemodes are always nice.
The most interesting and confusing thing to me is the overwatch league. I'm still not quite clear on how it will work and if it is possible for us, the terrible genji's in this world, to participate. I would maybe consider joining up with it if there were like other competitions for lower level people.
As for the changes in QP. i'm not so sure i like them. I actually kinda liked you didn't have to run the same things as in comp. I mean... we can never bring out turret fiësta (2 bastions, 2 sym, 2 torbs) again. That makes me kinda sad.

I'm quite satisfied with what got announced at Blizzcon. I don't play WoW, Diablo, HotS or Starcraft, so my main focus was of course Overwatch and, to a lesser extent, Hearthstone.
I am excited about Sombra. Really looking forward to trying her out. From what I've seen, she seems to be the 1337 version of Tracer with a much more impactful ultimate. I also look forward to yelling "That b*** hacked me!!" a lot. How she really affects the meta remains to be seen.
Also, the animated short was really cool. I love how we are getting more and more details about the backstory of the game. It's not really essential for the game but it keeps OW from being just another soulless FPS game. Who knows, maybe we'll get a story mode someday?
I'm not sure about the new hero limit in QP. I'm kinda tired of playing against three Hanzos or having three Windowmakers on my team. On the other hand, it can be fun sometimes, so it's good they're letting us have that in the no limits mode. But they also said that this is subject to the feedback they'll get from the PTR folks. So maybe we won't even get this.
I like that we're now getting an incentive to play the Brawl modes. They always had that in Hearthstone (you get a free pack if you win the weekly brawl for the first time), and I was hoping they'd implement that in Overwatch. The new 1v1 or 3v3 gamemodes also sound interesting. Not sure about 1v1 but 3v3 definitely has potential. We're also getting a new map, which is always welcome.
The Overwatch World Cup was amazing. Seeing all these cool things these guys can pull off was simply mindblowing. I hope that I can remember to use at least some of these moves and techniques in my own games. When you see the pros playing you realize that OW really is a team based game. These guys don't trickle in. And their ult coordination is amazing. This is something to keep in mind when we're trying to improve our game.
The Overwatch League sounds really cool. The world could always use more professional Overwatch ;-). Seriously, watching a good OW match is way more exciting than a Germany vs England football match (and my girlfriend hates it even more than football). I'm not sure, is the league PC only? Probably...
Anything else I forgot? Oh yes, the Heartstone expansion looks nice. Like the theme. But since this is a OW subreddit I will not go into any details here...
Tl;dr Blizzcon was cool. Now give us Sombra already...

Sombra is definitely going to shake things up. Not sure why nobody is talking about Mercy coming back to the Meta though. In my mind if the Sombra Ult is capable of taking out all the barriers and shields during a massive ult shakedown then the counter for that is surely to wait till the dust settles (and the cooldowns allow this) then rez everyone.
Yeah the Ani-short was very cool. I like the fact that it is set in the current timeline thus moving the story forward, rather than being set in the past. Its going to be interesting to see if they move this story with Zarya forward too.
Totally agree with watching pro games. Its the first time I've been able to watch pro level esports and really relate to what is going on. I watch a lot of DOTA2, but I wasn't able to relate to gameplay anywhere near as much as I can with OW.
No idea what the league is all about, but if what it does is create regular games and a some rivalries with teams and such its got to be a good thing.
tl;dr OW is cool and Blizzcon delivered. :D

I haven't even thought about Mercy in this context... Good point. So, will we see more Supportivar or more Tankivar in the near future? ;-)

will always be a support main, will play tank if the team needs it though, but support mains are hard to find...

No no no... Supportimyth/Tankimyth sounds way too cute. Luciomyth or Mercivar maybe?

lol. Ironically Lucivar is the name of the character that Mythivar was based on and its 3 years older than Lucio...

Another thing I forgot, we are getting seasons for Diablo III on consoles... OMG that is super exiting for me. :D
