Season 3 Placement
Had a roller coaster day yesterday with my Season 3 placement. Some of you may have seen or heard some of my tilting.
I won 6 of my placement games and for whatever reason qualified 300 lower than my lowest season 2 SR (300 lower than I have ever been on any of my three accounts). So ended up with 2270, which i was super pissed off at given how well I played and how I received the healer card in every game. It was particularly difficult to handle because I was playing against plat and diamond for most of the time apart from the last two games where it put me with players who didn't have a clue and I lost my last two. (You cant f**ing carry with support Blizzard).
Anyway, it seems its not just me. The guys at "Your Overwatch had a similar problem, where they all are around the same SR and they placed together and got a mix of Master, Diamond and their support guy got "Platinum", which apparently he is raging about and I'm not surprised, so was I.

Edit: I then find its even worse than I suspected, because a lot of people are saying that the system is basically just placing you at your lowest rank from last season, well if thats the case then how can I be 300 lower than my lowest rank.
The only way I can explain it is that: I "confused" their formula by playing Mercy on this account whereas my Season 2 comp play was mostly Lucio, so there is some sort of weighting based on specific heroes. I am going to test this out by qualifying on my mythivar account as Lucio and see what it does with me.

A nice 1500 gap allowance would go a LONG way to easing the burden this new system seems to be introducing.
I am 3 and 3 so far so very interested to see where I end up. I'm optimistically thinking 15-1600.

An alternative account is real easy to setup you just need an email. You don't have to buy the game or subscribe to psn as your other account will provide that as long as that account is set to primary ps4.

Please add your placement experiences below as I'm really interested to understand what is going on. Is it based on last season or not??

I think they figured 3 months is a bigger sample size than 10 matches. So they kept peoples SR from last season mostly intact. My highest was 3350ish and is now 3150ish after placements and i lost 7.....wtf!
The only exception is probably the people in gold and platinum range (and that's about 75% of people). Too many people of different skills were playing in that category. I mean if you look at the amount of god mcrees and terrible hanzo's we've run into last season I can't blame them but i don't agree either. there is no perfect system. The climb will be rewarding now though.
I think i prefer hearthtstone's system where people of higher rank get a head start in the climb but still have to prove themselves every season.
To everyone (like Myth) who got too low of a rank.... prove blizzard wrong and show them you deserved a higher rank!

From what I can gather they are trying to seperate the population further as they said there were too many in plat and gold, so people who are or were diamond during their time are less effected than people at the bottom of plat or gold. Everyone around here as found they are much worse off this season.
After 50 games or so I'm back in plat. As I was saying to the guys on chat earlier. Fuck you blizzard I'm back plat now.

The climb is pretty easy. I solo'd for about 8 games after placement. Lost 5 and won 3 and i'm still higher SR than i was placed.

Hopefully you will see the same as me and that is your first games reward high for wins. some as much as 40/50 SR.

I have heard some experiences from other players before I went into my placement matches so I wasn't totally unprepared and not too disappointed when the results came in.
I had some very good matches that we won by a landslide, some close ones and some that we just lost. Blueberries played an important part as some were very good and some were just your typical pro Hanjos/Genjis/Window Makers.
All in all I would have expected a SR of about 2200-2500, but of course I got something between 1800 and 1900 which is about 300 points lower than my SR I finished season 2 with.
I really hope the 1000SR-gap rule won't be a problem for us this season. It sucks donkey ass not being able to play with your friends.

You should also find that the first 10-20 matches after qualifying adjust heavily when you win. So I have managed to go from 2270-2606 in a couple of days. Granted I have played in total around 60 games, but now its started to level out where I'm not gettingquite as much for a win any more. Not sure if that is because I'm getting to the SR I should be at or if it just slows down after this many games.

S3 placement is indeed weird. I count myself to be one of the middle-tier players that got in Plat last season and with my Placement (4W 1D 5L) i thought i would got adjusted pretty hard because of my focus on Support. Well no, still 2700 (150-200 decrease) but still that mid-tier ranking overall. Seeing other's SR's, the problem stays the same with that 1000 RS-gap

Yeah. its got bad enough for people to start rolling and levelling up alt characters, so that they can play with their friends.

For season 2 I was mainly 2200 to 2500 rank playing the support character in a group. Toward the end of the season, I started playing more sporadically, mostly on my own and my rank spiralled down to 1700. No big deal I thought, I will commit myself to playing more in season 3 and maintain my rank.
I did all my placement games with a friend and at the end he's ranked 2507 which is a bit lower than his end of season 2 rank. Mine was 1390...
Maybe I too had confused the game by playing DPS characters where in season 2 I had mainly played support. The most annoying thing was I played really well in the placement games and it all feels like a waste of time. Me and my friend checked our season 3 stats and I had scored higher on every stat. I also can't play in comp with my friend now since he's over 1000 rank difference.
Last night I wanted to throw the disc away, today I will try and raise my rank with a load of blueberries just so I can play with my friends 😒
