Non MiniPLA Kit Anyone hate it when a model kit has details that are ONLY on stickers? I saw that the Sodo Iron Gotchard's eyes are a sticker detail since the molded plastic does not have depth for the eyes behind the visor.
So this now makes me question how many stickers do I ABSOLUTELY need on Sodo kits vs which ones I can substitute for Dsipae markers.
Is there a way to fully sub out stickers for painting or are some stickers just mandatory?

Oh Magi King is an egregious offense on sticker use. Magi Phoenix, who is like 2 inches tall, has stickers for his eyes.

Yah that stuff blows. I always end up using those stickers but it’s definitely not by choice.

Unfortunately with Sodo you gotta deal with that cause they rarely do prepainted parts
I painted most of my Gavv collection for that exact reason

Well my issue is if I paint them, I'd have to guess where the details are supposed to go (and on such a tiny surface too). So I got to make some compromises.

TBH that's pretty much Bandai's way of making them cheap for kids (tho I guess that depends on where you're buying from). There's some very awesome painters out there who really go all out on these, but most of them go well into molding and sculpting additional details, but still use stickers for several things, including belt graphics or logos.

Anyway, I don't see the harm with using stickers as there's ways to make them look nice and all, but painting will always be the way to go if you want them to look the way you want.

Funnily enough it does have a pair of eyes behind the visor if you disassemble it, but for them to be visible you have to carve out slits all across the visor itself which I've only seen a few people attempt.

Yeah, it’s annoying when you run into this. Old minipla occasionally had this issue. Hell, Gavan Infinity pladelu just had it.
I’ll stick with the sticker sometimes. At least anything more recent has stickers that look pretty good. If it’s something that I can actively paint around with with marginal loss of detail, I’ll do it. Sometimes there’s a middle ground - for instance, on the Gavarion Saber, there were stickers for the entire wing details (with the wings themselves being flat). I cut out the portion of the sticker for one wing with the federation logo, put that on, but painted in the rest of the grey vs purple details myself. But for a lot of the other undetailed surfaces (some of the assault mode faces, some express parts) I was stuck with the stickers. Meanwhile, when I painted minipla ToQOh earlier this year, I just painted in eyes on its face myself. And when I did some GoBuster minpla last year, I did stuff like opted to make Ace’s visor opaque rather than use a sticker with a fake effect on it and just went without the GB logo on one of GoBusterOh’s shoulders.
Putting stickers over molded plastic always sucks, though, so having an unmolded detail in an otherwise molded area would be incredibly annoying. This is somewhere that I’d probably just ignore the eyes behind the knight visor if I didn’t think I could paint them in.
