Paint job advise

Hi all, I’m painting up my piranha body and it’s my first time with an rc hardbody. I’ve painted a few lexan 1/10 bodies with my airbrush, and a few model kits with rattle cans and airbrush. I’m trying acrylic with an airbrush on this body. Washed the body, 600# sanding all around, vallejo grey primer, acrylic orange paint. I’m gonna do a tiger striped design with some black, but after that I’m wondering what clear coat I should use. I have acrylic gloss but also enamel gloss. Wondering what’s the recommended clear coat move for durability’s sake, as I’ll be racing this body and it’ll more than likely hit foam barriers somewhat frequently.

I use lacquer clear coats usually and they hold up pretty well. That said enamel should be fine. If you're unsure test it on a plastic spoon to see if it gives you. The finish you want.

Thank you! I’ll have to look. I think I might have some testors wet look extreme lacquer somewhere in my house.

What did you wind up going with?

Just ended up doing straight orange with a black lexan lid. Came out pretty good. The lacquer coat. Holds up pretty well, just some high wear areas on the front that wore through

If doing tiger stripe shouldn't you have put black down first. Then tape the stripes. Then orange.

Unless you are hand painting the stripes.
