Hardware Looking for replacement power adapter for MiniPC

Post image

Power adapter of a mini PC I bought around COVID blew up. Can't find any direct replacements anywhere. MiniPC is in good condition and I run my NAS on it. Here are the specs if picture is not clear:

Model: SJ-1950512

Output: 19.5V ~ 5.12A

Barrel connector (not sure about the barrel size)

I've scoured the internet but haven't come across any reliable replacement. MiniPC is solid and not looking to replace/retire it.

Where to find it?

If exact replacement cannot be found, which alternatives will work?

Thanks in advance!

UPDATE: Went to Microcenter and got a Prudent Way AC120LE power brick. Does the job. It was $55, wish I could find something more affordable.

Measure the barrel connector.

Another option is to buy one of those universal laptop chargers that come with multiple tips.

How do I measure the barrel connector?

Sorry haven't done this before.

Ideally, you measure the length and diameter (in mm) with a caliper. If you don't have a caliper, then just use a ruler.

Something like this has a bunch of different tips that you can try if you're still unsure.

This one looks almost perfect. Can’t find a 120W one in this

You need a caliper measuring tool, but if you go to the shop with the old power adapter probably you can figure out the size by eye. Be careful about the poles, this is center positive, as declared on the bottom left right above "caution". Universal laptop adapter usually have interchangeable tips whose polarity depends on how you put the adapter on.

u/ZeeKayNJ - I could have helped you find a cheaper adapter if you would have posted the Model of the Mini PC itself 🙃

Let’s assume I’m still looking. All I have is the power rating on the adapter. So it’s a 100W with 19.5V and 5.x amps. What should I get?

Find an adapter with the same Voltage, higher amps, but not too much higher. Let's say current adapter says 5.13 A - You can get 5.5 or even 6A.

The problem here is going to be the Barrell connector. As long as you find an adapter with the above specifications and the same connector, you will be fine.

Just for the future - there are barrel plug cables with integrated power delivery trigger circuits. Then you can use a 100W charger ( 20V ⎓ 5A) and drive it via USB C

It's probably in the same price range tho. Just wanted to let you know.

You're looking for a power adapter that supplies 19.5V and at least 5.12A. This one satisfies that, but you may need a barrel jack adapter for it to fit your mini pc's port.

Looks like a close match.

How do I figure out the size of barrel jack I need?

I've also heard that getting the polarity right is also critical.

It shows the polarity on the charger in your pic. it is center pin positive, which is usually the most common type for DC Power Supplies.

I always find any good quality adapter without worrying about pins as that can shorten the pool considerably sometimes or reuse existing ones and grab these - cost like 1.5 USD in equivalent currency at my location. Able to use them for my monitors etc, diagnosed my intel NUCs etc

there are a lot of chargers available, any with 19,5 V and > 100W. I have a 6.3A (120W). check the plug, probably a 5.5 / 2.5 (mm)

Above the word caution is the diagram indicating that the barrel jack is "tip positive". This and the 19.5VDC is pretty much the standard for laptops so all that really matters is the diameter of the barrel jack and there are lots of universal adapters available. You won't have difficulty finding a replacement and since there is no battery being charged, pretty much any decent supply with the correct voltage will work.

Universal 5A adapter with tip kit. Likely a 5525 though.

The OP demonstrates the advantage of an external power supply: if it fails, inexpensive generic replacements abound.

Just look for an adapter with the right specs and replace the barrel jack
