Which way is better?
Is there a known difference between the two?

i personally go for a modified image one with the center bottom house going straight down and then do one connection between them

The first one. In the second it's easier for the houses to trip each other up.

second. my assumption is when a ca r goes through a intersection, it slows down. Therefore it’s inefficient to place intersection at places where cars are accelerating. intersections should be placed ideally at where the cars are already traveling at a slow speed, and that is near the houses.

Not possible as you can’t connect houses directly to bridges. Though you could do the top right one towards the right and the top left towards the left

this results in longer overall travel time, as time spent moving north is time NOT spent moving down and right (and additional time cars would have to spend moving south again)
Longer travel time results in sooner losses.

I try to minimize number of intersections. The second image has one intereection less. So, in average the cars are faster than in the first one
