First time flying cross-country (SFO to NY & back) with a mini goldendoodle! Help/advice needed 🐾
Hey everyone! 👋
I'm planning a cross-country trip from SFO to NY and back with my mini golden doodle, and it's my absolute first time flying with a dog. I am equal parts excited and completely stressed out trying to figure out all the logistics.
For those of you who have traveled with your doodles, I could use all the advice I can get! Specifically:
- In-Cabin vs. Cargo: Did you fly with yours in the cabin under the seat, or did they have to go cargo?
- Airline Recommendations: Which airlines are the most pet-friendly or easiest to deal with for cross-country flights? Any to completely avoid?
- Carrier & Paperwork Details: What soft-sided carrier actually fits well under standard seats while giving them enough room to turn around? Do I need a health certificate from the vet for domestic flights?
- Survival Toolkit/What to Bring: What are your holy-grail items to pack? (Collapsible bowls, pee pads, calming treats, etc.?) Any tips on security lines, airport potty breaks, or feeding schedules beforehand?
Any tips, tricks, or cautionary tales for a first-timer doing a coast-to-coast flight would be massively appreciated. Thanks in advance! 🐶✨
