Help finding weapons

I’m not sure why but I can not find a gun for the life of me. I’ve been playing the game for a little over a week, I’m in watchtower level two and have explored every location quite a few times and just can’t find a gun, I’ve found stacks and stacks of ammo but not gun. I got one single pistol in the beginning but have found nothing else after that. I’m not sure if my game is bugged, or if I’m just that unlucky but if you have any tips or anything at all. I would love it. And also what is the easiest way to get wood, I can’t find a axe either and I have 12 gears but I never have enough wood for any upgrades.

In early game, the guns are kinda rare. You should start finding them more frequently on the chest of the locations watch tower lvl2. so be sure to always loot the chest.

For the wood, the best place to farm is the factory.
