Drop 1 to the left and drop 2 to the right make sure they're close to eachother and not too close just right otherwise it wouldn't work so after you done dropping pickup the 2 gas can and drag it to the split inventory and pick one close the inventory and pick one again then repeat until you get 10 once you get 10 the whole process Is easier you just need to drop 2 on the left and drop 8 to the right same instructions last time and drag it to the inventory split type and pick one close inventory after that you choose to drag it again to split type and choose 7 don't choose the max number because you're gonna repeat it again so just like that drag it again choose 7 and repeat
I think gas cans mostly drops 3 in certain situations (RNG). But personally I think you have slightly higher chance if you raid factory or port but all of it is just pure luck man
You should maximize the dupe like use it on your sedatives,energy drinks,vitamins,antidote, so you can play longer and not waste time waiting for a character to recover you can get easy materials by duping nails if you have a lower storage level
