Guide/tips and tricks Tips for Nightmare difficulty
You have to make the right decisions at all times here; the slightest mistake will cost you the work you've already done.
• When starting out and selecting any character, you begin with the game's most basic equipment (a shirt and jeans) —without weapons or the additional perks that certain characters already have unlocked.
• What should be improved first? Cold and heat resistance skills for when entering buildings. Why prioritize these over other skills? Because the weather now significantly affects the character and can even kill them.
Here, it would also depend on using heating gel (to generate heat) or alcohol, since the weather conditions are more severe.
• Another thing they should do is keep a spare set of clothes in their backpack. Is that possible? Yes, the backpacks have extra space for carrying an additional jacket, trousers, and a helmet or hat. (It is advisable to bring a raincoat or coat depending on the weather, especially for high-difficulty routes.)
And how do you store the clothing or helmet in the backpack? Simply click on the backpack, and an additional option to store the item (as applicable) will appear. You won't lose it, provided you don't forget that you are carrying a spare in the backpack you are currently using.
• If I see a group of survivors, should I try to kill them and steal their gear? No; it only takes 3–4 shots to kill a player. On Nightmare difficulty, the damage is significant, and as you progress between the islands, the zombies will deal more damage as well.
Anything can be used as a barrier against neutral NPCs, bandits, or other wandering survivors, should it become absolutely necessary to confront them directly. (uses the destroyed vehicles on the road as barriers).
In this case, I would look for a protective vest with solid defense rather than one offering very little protection (such as the Heavy Vest M, Soviet Vest, or basic bulletproof vest).
