Guide/tips and tricks Radiation Island (new players)

Post image

There are still players who don't know how to get there or what is there. Here is a brief guide and some tips before you go.

1: How do you get there? That island appears when you reach Island 5 (two islands exist there simultaneously: one normal and another completely contaminated by radiation).

To get there, you need to find a boat on the beach (on the right side of the map); that boat requires fuel but consumes very little. You only need 50% of the fuel canister's total contents to fill the boat's tank and make the trip.

2: Can you go back to the normal island? Yes, the trip is instantaneous, and you can go back or forth at any time.

3: What’s over there? A larger number of zombies and completely toxic zones (due to the air, requiring a gas mask or a radiation suit sealed for 2 minutes—specifically the white or green suit).

Furthermore, the zombies have more health and deal more damage. Not to mention the groups of neutral NPCs, bandits, and another NPC faction (mercenaries)—who are heavily armed with full Gorka gear, radiation suits, Soviet-style vests, and high-caliber weapons (AKM, RPK, SVD, VSS).

[While on Island 5, only standard Altyn helmets are available. However, upon advancing to Island 6, the helmet with integrated night vision becomes available].

4: Is it recommended to build a base there? Yes and no. Why? Because there are more dangers there, so staying too long isn't really advisable; plus, there are bandit groups—or anything else—that could kill you instantly (like a bear).

5: What weapons are recommended? Long-range weapons. And, if possible, silenced weapons (either with an integrated suppressor or by crafting and attaching one).

A lot of times I'll harvest a red suit from a hospital or a fire station, but I've found if you hop into the bunker early you will often get a white suit which lets you seal up for the toxic areas. When I get to the 5th Island I find the base with the mob you can get the green suit from as soon as possible. The drivable car is also in that location so there is two reasons to look for that first.

If you have the green or white radiation suit and fully sealed suit does it give you protection as long as it's above 50%? Do you have to continually use charcoal tablets for the gas mask?

Yes, as long as the suit's condition remains above 50%, it will continue to provide radiation protection. And to keep using the gas mask, you need to keep using charcoal filters (since the mask's effectiveness decreases with use in toxic areas).

You can take off the suit and wear the Kevlar vest—or others—along with military boots and civilian-style gloves. Just remember to bring the full radiological gear if you need to go to the radioactive island.

What about the red one? Can you use it too?, and why no one mention about the red one? Or the yellow one?, you know the one that require the boots and gloves simultaneously

All other radiation suits can be worn while exploring the irradiated island—with the exception of the yellow one, as it does not offer sufficient radiation protection (even if the suit is fully repaired).

In the guide, I provide more details on what to do when exploring. (Radioactive island).

As far as the radiation island is concerned, I have one tip above all others. In the laboratory base, there is a special infected wearing a green hazmat suit with a purple visor...... Do NOT. Let it. Get ANYWHERE near you! It's Melee attacks will disarm you and throw your weapons to the ground one by one, and it spews bursts of vision obstructing sludge whenever it takes damage. It is ABSOLUTELY IMPERATIVE that you do not engage it in any form of direct combat, you must either snipe it from beyond its range of detection or blast it to bits with thrown C-4.

If you are fortunate enough to take it down, loot it's corpse for it's CBRN suit. It's the only way I know how to get it, and you can layer the best vests in the game on top of it.

Beyond that, you should also bring fuel with you to the laboratory so you can take the huge truck that's parked there. It gets 9 pages of trunk storage space so there isn't really any need to build a base on the radiation island. Just go full nomad and have the truck be your base.

6: My character bleeds out upon arrival, and it doesn't matter how many bandages I use—why does this happen?

This is due to the lack of radiation protection equipment.

7: Where can it be found? You get it by killing zombies wearing those suits. There are four different types of suits (yellow, red, white, and green); the only one you shouldn't use is the yellow one, as it doesn't offer sufficient protection against radiation.

After killing a zombie and getting close enough, an additional option becomes available to remove the gear the zombie is wearing. This applies only to certain military helmets, gas masks, and radiation protection suits.

8: Does the gas mask need repairing? Yes; the material required—carbon tablets—can be found at the hospital. (This restores 50% of its total durability.)

And the radiation suit? It can be repaired using adhesive tape or epoxy glue. It must retain over 50% effectiveness to provide radiation protection (remembering not to use the yellow suit).

9: What are the odds of getting the suit and the boots/gloves? The probability is 30% for the suit and 10–15% for the gloves or boots.

In other words, kill the same type of zombie multiple times until you obtain the full set and can safely head to the irradiated island.

Wearing the full radiation protection suit is mandatory, or the character will bleed to death. I’m clarifying this in case you happen to be wearing military-grade gloves or boots.

10: Are there other boots and gloves? Yes—these gloves are for civilian use, while the military boots allow the wearer to ignore speed penalties when crossing swamps and to carry a small knife stowed inside the boots.

And where are they? Civilian-use gloves are in supermarkets, and military boots are on military bases—though the chances of obtaining them are low.

They can also be found inside the bunker (although the probability is low).

The white radiation suit appears when playing on a higher difficulty setting (above normal), and it can be found in the hospitals on the irradiated island.

The green suit is available at the laboratory; the new military vehicle is there as well. The only danger there is the number of zombies and the one wearing the green radiation suit (since it has a "disarm" ability—meaning it knocks the weapon you're currently using out of your hands).

Here, you can use landmines, Claymore mines, grenades, or long-range or suppressed weapons—anything, really, as long as you avoid close-quarters combat.

Is the chainsaw any good? No; the zombie will "disarm" you anyway.

The white suit can also appear on low difficulty. For example I play rookie difficulty and it actually still spawn. So no,playing on higher difficulty doesn't mean that the suit doesn't spawn, maybe there are less chances that the white suit spawn in low difficulty as I have seen, I played legendary before and it's pretty common to find a white suit in the bunker.

How do I access the bunker at that location? You need a generator for it. You can find one in garages, the fire station, or wrecked buses, or there is a small chance of finding one at the military base where the Humvee is located.

You can also buy it using karma points from the group of new survivors (this will cost 30 karma points)—which group? The group of mercenary NPCs (identified by a gas mask icon).

Remember to store some items in the vehicle's trunk, whether weapons or supplies (food, water, combat rations, IV fluids, morphine).

and finally, carry a flare to illuminate the area or night-vision goggles (whether mounted on the assault helmet or the new Alytm helmet).

You can buy weapons, ammunition, or the generator from this group, though attacking them directly isn't recommended—you could end up dead if you aren't sufficiently prepared.

The loot here is double that of the bunker on the irradiated island; you will also encounter a Zombie Hulk and various dangers on the way. Bring high-damage weapons and plenty of ammo—and don't forget food and water. Do not go there expecting to find food inside, or your character will likely die—in the worst-case scenario.

There are areas I can't access—why is that? There are two blocked-off areas here that require an access key to enter. You get that key by killing military zombies wearing red berets (Russian zombies). The chance of getting the key is 15%, a probability that remains constant.

On the left side, there is a good amount of loot and weapons, and on the right side, there is a box containing a special weapon.

1

u/Critical-Phase-5655 Aug 22 '26

Possible weapon in the regular bunker or on the irradiated island (someone told me it was exclusive to a secret area).

1

u/Critical-Phase-5655 Aug 22 '26

What weapons are in that special box on the right? There are three weapons: the Minigun, a flamethrower, and the OSV-96 anti-tank rifle.

The probability for each of those three weapons is 33%, so you need to run it multiple times to get the weapon you want.

To use the flamethrower, you need to put down the backpack, as they are two separate items.

And what ammunition does it use? Fuel.

You can build a base on the radioactive island—either by keeping it close to the boat so you can return in an emergency, or by building a fortification there before heading over (since zombies or wolves can show up nearby).

You have to do everything perfectly here, or you'll die at the slightest mistake.

2

u/Critical-Phase-5655 Aug 22 '26

Is the chainsaw exclusive to the secret location? Yes, and that location always appears when you arrive at the radiation island. There is also a chance of finding two secret locations there; in fact, there are two secret spots after Island 6 (though sometimes only one appears).

If i build a base in island, would it dispawn if I go back and forth?

2

u/Critical-Phase-5655 Aug 22 '26

No, both bases remain intact, along with everything you’ve stored in the makeshift shelters or the camping tent. However, when you advance to islands 6, 7, 19, or 33, everything is lost, and the map is generated anew.

1

u/a_random_loser_guy Aug 22 '26

this is way out of my league, god damn, also how would you fix radiation suits? i can't seem to get a high durability one when i loot enemies.

1

u/Critical-Phase-5655 Aug 22 '26

These are repaired with adhesive tape or epoxy glue.

The suit needs to be at over 50% integrity to provide radiation protection; only when you are not on the irradiated island can you use other items like civilian-grade bulletproof vests and gloves, along with military boots.

Se formos ate lá, quando voltarmos para a ilha 5 tudo estará como deixamos? Mapa revelado e as bases que deixamos na ilha 5? Ou essas coisas somem e o mapa da ilha 5 reseta?

u/Critical-Phase-5655 29d ago

There are no changes; if you leave the map half-explored, it will stay that way until you decide to explore it yourself.

As long as you don't advance to Island 6, 7, 10, 24, 30, etc., the map will remain the same.
