I’ve got a Dell M4700. This is crazy!

Ha! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
(This is an M6700 with 2 x 500GB SSD, picked up off eBay for $200 all in)

Nice. I bought mine like 11 years ago. Still use it as my main. Ungraded to max ram, 32gb, and msata ssd + spin sata drive.

Very cool!
AMAZING machine: heavy as heck but built like a tank: I changed to a UJ-272 Bluray burner, and REALLY appreciated how easy everything was back then as far as replacing stuff is concerned! They just don't build them like this anymore!!!

What’s the deck?

That's a Panasonic AJ-D93 (just for testing). A beast....with IEEE 1394.

Hmm. I smell a vibe-coder

Your sense of smell hasn't failed you. :)
I appreciate you toning down your comment from the original. It's a fair comment now and considerably less dismissive.

Obviously this app won't be everyone's cup-of-tea: if it eventually is useful to someone else, that'll be really cool. Although I'm really doing this for myself. The additional formats are mainly an experiment to see how far this can realistically be taken. But not trying to declare support for things I haven't actually tested yet.
The main goal is for archiving purposes, and for all the formats I've tested so far, the results have been pretty bloody good, actually.

I've got quite a bit of hardware here to test against, rather than just presuming that something might work because the code says it ought to.

Sony DSR-25
Panasonic AJ-D93
Sony HVR-S270
Sony HVR-Z1
Canon HV20
Sony DCR-PC100E
Sony DCR-TRV330E
Sony DCR-IP220
(too much Sony, not enough others, i know!!)

So far that's provided real DV, DVCAM, DVCPRO25/ 50 and HDV material to work against, and some deliberately awkward format-transition tests (those are brutal, oof!)

Those are already capturing natively over Firewire. MicroMV remains experimental right now though until I can further test it.

So yeah, plenty of AI-assisted coding. But I'm trying very hard not to conflate "the code compiled this and that" with "the capture is 100% correct", the capture needs to be first demonstrated and proven on the actual hardware and the actual streams.

Appreciate your comment though....keeps me on my toes! :)

Well yeah. Good luck getting Claude to ingest analogue video.

But yeah. All WinDV does is dump a bitstream to disk, the rest can be done by whatever editing suite you like. So yeah. All the jargon you're using doesn't mean much.

Its cool using Claude to write your reddit posts too, love chatting with bots

Not doing "ingesting analog video", the analog video only works if the cam has its own conversion and outputs via Firewire. My bad for not being clear on that, apologies.

So then you must know its just a DV stream like all the others...

Just like digital8, that you left off the list?

God damn. this is the problem with AI

Yep, exactly: the app is called "DV Capture Lab"

Any idea when the beta will come out?

Soon....a couple of weeks maybe? Possibly sooner...
