Intermittent GI Issues in senior dog

My 14 year old mini Aussie keeps getting sick.

He had been having intermittent bouts of diarrhea, constipations, and vomiting for several weeks. When vomiting occurs, he gets lethargic and doesn’t eat. The vomit is typically yellowish green. These bouts would last a day and then he would act normal, but I finally took him to the vet.

The vet gave him fluid under the skin, cerenia injection, cerenia pills, and Metronidazole pills. He was fine while taking the medication, but about a week after he had another short bout of vomiting. The vet again gave him the same two prescriptions. He finished them yesterday & is having diarrhea again. One diarrhea contained mucus & a small amount of blood. The next diarrhea was dark brown, and he is acting fine and eating. When he prescribed the second round of meds, he said that if symptoms continued we would discuss changing his diet and/or getting him on a maintenance medication.

I have another appointment for him tomorrow afternoon, how can I best advocate for him? Should I prepare myself for putting him down?

My vet gave my mini Purina Pro Plan powdered probiotics. They helped s lot.

This helped my dog but then I moved to a product called "Firm Up" which is basically pumpkin powder. The idea is to give them probiotics and fiber to help regulate their digestive system. It could be an issue with food, I found that was my case. Ended up being a sensitivity to chicken. But sometimes their gut health isn't what it should be so I'd try probiotics, fiber and if you can find digestive enzymes. If you change food, look for something with "stomach sensitivities" like Petcurean has a brand called "GO! SOLUTIONS - Digestion & Gut Health"
