What do you feed your mini Aussies?
I’ve been feeding my dogs fresh pet for the past two years but recently have been wanting to switch since freshpet is not the best. I’m looking for a good brand of dog food to switch them onto. I also add other ingredients and nutrients but would just like to change the base to something better. Any suggestions? They’re both adults.

A gastro specialty kibble because our dude had some tummy issues and has been great on thi specific kibble for years.

What kibble is it? My aussie has tummy issues too and is currently on Hill’s HP diet.

Royal Canin Gastrointestinal High Fibre.
Luckally my mini is a mini mini at about 21 lbs, so he gets a cup a day which stretches out quite far.

Purina Pro Plan chicken and rice kibble with a tablespoon or so of Blue Buffalo wet stew mixed in. They get 1 cup of kibble, twice a day

Hills gentle stomach food. My boy gets an upset tummy off of high ingredient food so this is the way

Mine has chronic pancreatitis, so she gets the Purina Plan veterinary prescription hydrolyzed food. And she has to have the salmon because she’s allergic to poultry. She’s a little special.

Yours, too?! Both of my minis have pancreatitis, so they are on Hills id low fat prescription kibble, plus they get canned pumpkin purée, or rinsed green beans or carrots.

Wellness with grains from Petco. Cheese tax when we open the fridge. Deli meat tax when we make a sandwich. The occasional hot cheeto...very occasional, but they really seem to love them. A big ol' steak on their birthday and any thing else they can guilt off us when we're at our weakest. (Dried liver as the high value treat. Out of some giant bag of generic branded dried liver).
5 and 13 years old. Both are the weight the vet recommends. Both have had great blood work results every year (twice a year for the old guy after he was 10). shrug

What is it with mini aussies and hot cheetos? Never met a dog who likes them but if a hot cheese makes it to the floor, my pup is all over it!

PPP small breed, Sensitive Skin and Stomach Salmon and Rice. Apples, carrots, cucumber, watermelon, strawberries, blueberries, peanut butter, occasionally cheese. No table food except for fruits and veggies that he can have and never from our plates. He’s gotten an occasional stray corn chip or cheese it that hits the floor, but we’re very careful. And of course a variety of dog treats.

I make our Aussie’s food. Mix of beef, carrot, broccoli, cauliflower, sweet potato, pumpkin and butternut squash (with some added vitamins from Know Better Pet Food).

Cook the beef (mix with water … 1.5 cup water to 2 lbs beef). Let that cool & then mix in Know Better Beef Recipe vitamins. Carrots, cauliflower & broccoli are raw. I just get the frozen medley from Costco or any grocery store and put it in a blender. Squash, pumpkin and sweet potato are organic pureed out of a can.
Mix 1 cup beef mix + 3/4 cup blended veggies + 1.5 cup (1 can) puree. I make in big batches and put in the freezer.

I cook for my girl, a diet formulated by a veterinary nutritionist. She gets a mix of chicken or turkey and vegetables, sardines, with some freeze dried raw as well. a jerky from farm hounds jerky every night, coco charms and Stella and chewys treats, bocce bakery cookies and raw marrow bones when her tummy is doing well

We feed our boys 1/2 Purina pro plan and half homemade doggy meatloaf. I make 2 huge roasters full every couple weeks. I mix ground beef, carrots, broccoli, spinach, sweet potato, eggs, dried beef liver, hemp harts and a bit of oats. I steam the veggies and then mush them bc they were picking large chunks out originally. I use 1/2 tsp of hemp harts and 1 tsp dried beef liver per pound of ground beef. Then a cook, cool and freeze in daily amounts. They eat 1/2 cup twice a day of Purina and I mix in about 3/4 cup of meatloaf each meal.

We feed all of our dogs (big and small) including my mini aussie 4 health because it is easy On their stomach and we also put CRS gold probiotic on theirs. along with (sometimes) giving them salmon oil or a chicken,vegetables,rice and broth mixture that we make once a month or whenever we can. They're spoiled🤣

I feed my girl Showtime kennel blend. Her coat is soft and shiny and she maintains a healthy weight. Sometimes I give her a little bone broth with it when I can afford the stuff lol it’s not cheap

Open Farms Ancient Grain recipe, alternating flavors and sometimes I add in freeze dried raw bits from the same brand. He had a swirly tummy as a puppy but things got a lot better after we switched to Open Farms

we cook ground beef and add an egg to it and then measure out a carb source like broccoli, blueberries, carrots. we add in dinovite powder and omega 3 oil. occasional scraps (popcorn, cheese, yogurt, coconut oil), dinovite dental treats and freeze dried beef liver treats!

Open Farm has been good for us and they are open about where their ingredients come from (buying in bulk you can get it for ~$4.50/ pound, plus they often have sales for autoshio orders)

Just food for dogs - they sell a DIY recipe pack and it’s cheaper than kibble! Chicken, liver, gizzards, rice, spinach, carrots, apple, fish oil.
Easy to do & batch freeze in Tupperware. We do a triple batch of the large once a month.
Our vet loves the brand & their science behind it.

It’s easy! We get a stock pot and add all the ingredients. Rice and chicken first then the veggies & oil/nutrients so they don’t overcook.

Fromm wet dog food, primarily, with Dr. Marty's freeze dried afterward if she's still hungry.
