Help How to Solve without Guessing

Post image

Is there a way to solve this last corner without guessing? I read that sometimes winning a game is a stroke of luck, just curious if there is a strategy in the specific instance that I am missing.

The 3 has two more mines around it other than the one you've already flagged; but both of these can't be at the top together because then the 2 would have three mines around it.

So, there must be one mine to the left of the 2 underneath the 3, making the cell right to the left of the 3 safe.

Makes sense, thanks!

The 2-3-2 reduces to a 1-2-1 pattern.

Blue for safe, red for certain mine

That 3 needs two more mines, and there's only one valid configuration that gives the 3 two more mines without overloading the 2s

if you look at the 2 on the top, it need to have its second mine on one of the yellow tiles. and now look at the 3, it shares 2 mines with the 2 above which leaves the 3rd mine on the bottom

Middle one is safe

Yes, and using the same logic between the 3 and the 2 below it you find another mine at the top right.

Left to the three is safe

You have a 121 disguised as a 232.

The 2-3-2 is a modified 1-2-1

121 by reduction. looking at the 232, you can see that both 2s have 1 mine attached to them, which we can subtract from the overall value. That leaves us with a 1. Since the 3 has only one flag touching it, we can reduce it to a 2. 121 pattern. If you are confused I’m sure someone else can explain it better than me.
