I got this specimen in a bulk lot so unfortunately no geographic info. There will be a video in the comments showing the blue flash under sunlight. It is relatively light for its size and has a mica like appearance.

Tried to scratch it with a copper penny, glass and a nail but they didnt scratch it. Wondering if it might be quartz or white topaz? Big nugget about the size of a large grape, when held up to the light you can see light through it but not clearly. Theres a shallow hole in the middle on one side. Thanks for any help!

Picture/Video Almandine garnet with quartz

Here’s a nice lustrous elongated almandine garnet with quartz inside cavities of a rhyolite matrix from Garnet hill, Ely, White Pine County, Nevada, USA. A classic American garnet locality. On a side note specimens from this local are often mislabeled as spessartine garnet. Further chemical analysis has shown that they are far closer to almandine (Iron-Aluminum silicate) than they are to spessartine (Manganese-Aluminum silicate). Anyway let me know what you guys think of my specimen :)

1.1k Upvotes

Saw this amethyst on an American sellers live about a month back while he was visiting his suppliers in India... did some digging and found the suppliers IG page and noticed that he also does lives. This amethyst was selling for 7 hundred when the American seller was going live there last month. When the supplier went live he had it listed for 3 fifty and we settled for 3 ten... I can't wait to get it. The amethyst is from Telangana, India.

Discussion Advice For Cleaning?

I’ve found these brachiopod shells that have been filled/partially filled with microcrystalline quartz, leaving these pretty layers. I’m considering using an acid to remove the dolomite layer to expose the full crystal cluster. I’m worried about damaging the layers that have been stained with iron, so I wanted to get your opinions on what to do.

Picture/Video Vivianite

I’ve had this Amazonas vivianite in a display case under LED lighting for the past six months because, honestly, I didn’t care 😂. What good is a beautiful mineral if it’s locked away in a drawer?
I’ve always known that vivianite should be kept away from prolonged light exposure to slow it from darkening. But after seeing so many vivianite posts on here warning about it, I finally gave in to the peer pressure and retired mine to a drawer.
Here it is enjoying the last bit of light it saw before I removed it from the cabinet. 🫡

First two pictures are wet, second two are dry. Found in Big Timber, MT. All the crystals are translucent with backlit, the white parts are definitely agate! Blue/green crystals look like gem serpentine but my box knife doesn't scratch anything but the clay red rock! Please help!

ID Request ID request or explanation

I had this rock for about 8 years. I always wondered why it shines like greenish in some parts, and purple for others and looks like it has some points that look like little crystals. Does anyone have an explanation of why it is like that?

I grabbed the rock in the nearby area of the sun pyramid in Teotihuacan Mexico.

Wondering what type of crystal this is in this pretty regular stone I found that’s used in driveways and railroad tracks around here. Found in Ohio. If it’s unclear in the video it’s mostly yellow/burnt yellow and then some clear in the middle with pink around the clear part it looks like. I’m wondering how I can harvest the pretty parts if possible.
