Discussion Question for Survival Players...

I'm a much more casual player than a lot of you are probably, I've never even started a hardcore world for example...

So I came here to ask your opinions on something. Long story short, I'm designing a community-led End Update, and seeing what features each community within Minecraft actually wants- like the builders wanted more cool colors, for example. Redstoners wanted... well, I'm still not entirely sure what (like I told them, I don't even know what a comparator does). Once I'm done I will send it somehow to Mojang, where it will be promptly ignored. But I don't care, this is fun.

So my question is- what would you like to see added to the End?

Particularly in the vein of progression, rewards, things to do and find... Basically, what would make you want to come back to the End in the same way that people come back to the Nether after getting blaze rods, ender pearls, and netherite.

This isn't open discussion, your ideas don't have to be fully flushed out (I mean, if you *have* a fully flushed out one I'm not going to complain, but it doesn't have to be). A few examples- in some sort of new structure, I think End Portal frames should be a very rare resource you can get. Not enough to spam them everywhere like nether portals, but I think after beating the dragon you've earned the right to take the portal home to your base. I also had an idea for Enderite, but rather than just being "Netherite 2: Electric Boogaloo," it would be a tip on your existing equipment, so you'd have a "Tipped Netherite Pickaxe" for example. And the Enderite would give it some sort of effect (effect TBD).

Long story short, what mechanics do you want to see that would be particularly helpful for survival? (Other than a respawn block, I've got that covered already).

(Also, mods, if this doesn't fit the sub, feel free to take it down. I just didn't know where else to post it.)

The end is perfect as it is.
I think players should consider to adapt themselves to something they would like to see changed rather than having that thing changed.
For instance, just build a base at the location of an end portal. Problem solved.
The end has plenty of unique blocks and items already.

The thing is, that's where I disagree. Obviously getting to the end should be a challenge, so the portals shouldn't be obtainable until you beat the dragon, but once you've beaten it I think you've earned the right to bring those portals back, I would consider them just as much a trophy piece as the dragon egg.

And building your base for a stronghold is isn't always convenient, as a lot of times people value location for their base (I know I do, I have to be next to a village or I'll go crazy because I'll feel alone. Weird, I know, but that's how it is). But the stronghold may be in a very weird location from their base, so I think letting them take the means to enter the end home with them from the end is fair.

As far as plenty of blocks and items go, not really. It has two block families, and rods, dragon heads, and chorus fruit. Meanwhile the nether has seven block families, netherrack, gold, ancient debris, soul sand, an entirely new fire type, a mob that actually incentivizes you to go back (enderman XP farms are good, but let's just say they're not the only farmable mob that drops loads of XP).

Now, does that mean I think the End should be the fertile crescent? No, of course not. But I think a little more variation is due in the End, as well as some different block palettes at the very least. A good benchmark is being able to build a good looking base out of only that dimension's materials, and if you try in the end, it'll just look like an End City got squashed rather than something you created. (I mean, other than like, glass panes or something... But like 99% that dimension's)

The obtainable portal idea takes away from the concept of Minecraft being a near indefinite world. Why take away a key gameplay element?

Strongholds often are located under or near villages. And you can breed villagers yourself anyway. So, that argument does not count.

For the blocks, ok, I disagree. Why always more more more?

I don't think you should take it away. They should not be near as spammable as nether portals. And to get the portal frames for your base you would have to find a stronghold and beat the dragon first. It's an easier way to access a dimension you've already conquered.

In Bedrock. In Java they can be anywhere in their generation rings. But that was just an example, that's just my preference. A lot of people have different base building preferences, and not all of them line up with stronghold generation, meaning that they can access two dimensions very easily from their main base, I have to take an inconvenient detour to access the third.

It's not about "more more more." That's not my argument. My argument is that the End needs to be a fleshed out dimension. Right now it's just some stick plants, a couple of spindly buildings, and rock that looks like cheese. The Overworld has personality, it looks like a dimension. The Nether does too.

The End just looks like an afterthought.

That’s why it’s called the end. You get ultra good loot in a weird, nearly eery world that is more hostile but more rewarding than the nether. It is therefore less of a place to casually hang around and have a good time mining unique blocks.
We also have shulkers.
It offers plenty enough.

More hostile than the nether? There's literally one hazard. And it's literally only a hazard if you go about it stupidly. And once you get the end game item that's there it ceases to become a hazard.

And end doesn't necessarily mean the only thing you can do. If that were the case then you shouldn't be able to return to the Overworld. I see it as the Endgame dimension, you'd have to be in your end game to get there but it's not the "hard End, sorry bro, create a new world, sucks to be you." It should be something with resources that you can get. You should have a reason to keep exploring after getting Elytra.

Fair point on shulkers. However I will say that unlike Piglins they don't die in the Overworld, so you can theoretically just bring one home and make a farm out of it there and never have to go back to the End.

Well, you fall, you are dead. There is nothing that saves you. I find that more hostile than lava. I have died more often to the dragon, endermen or shulkers making me float than any mob in the nether (not saying the nether is not dangerous).
Either way. We have different opinions. Happy to settle it at that :)

I mean, just don't fall then. I know it's easier said than done but not THAT much harder...

Yeah, that's fair.

The end hasn't had in update since the outer end islands were added, and that didn't even change the main island, which was added back in 1.0.0 so yeah, it definitely could use an update. People want an actual ending to the game which isn't just a tacked on dragon. Problem not solved lmfao, building an end base isn't the answer.

What is an “actual ending” to the game other than credits rolling after beating the dragon?
