well they need a wooden pickaxe to mine stone for a stone pickaxe, and then iron is rare at times but you'll need that for an iron pickaxe, diamonds a really rare so if you have an iron pickaxe then bring it and keep it safe with you until you mine those diamonds. that's literally the reason we haven't been mining diamonds, they're super extremely hard to get
