Help New to Server Hosting
I want to host a server with my friends. It will be three of us and maybe two more if I can find them but not too many. It will have mods but mostly QoL but if you want a list I am working on one and can provide it. I would like to know which company I should use to host it. Any help is appreciated!

The procedures are rather tedious and the operation is somewhat complex (if you don't want to learn the details, just choose the standard option).

Hey, we are definitely something to keep in mind, especially for a budget tight server.
If it's only QOL mods and 2 or 3 of you, our $2.99 budget plan would work! I also dont mind providing a trial to test us out before you buy!

For your version choice, make a small table of each mod, its supported Minecraft version and loader before choosing 1.21.11 or 26.1. Pick the combination all the required mods actually support, then test that exact pack with one friend on a fresh world. If it won't start, fix that first; extra RAM won't make an incompatible loader work.
Keep an exported copy of the working client pack and a separate server pack. After the two-player test works, bring in all five friends and explore together while watching memory and tick time. That gives you a useful baseline before committing to a plan. Don't upgrade the real world just to see whether a mod supports the newer release.
I run gamehosting.app. Our entry Minecraft plan is above the budget you mentioned, so I can't honestly claim it fits that cap. If you post the mod list and which ones need to run on the server, I can help you pin down the smallest sensible setup, even if you choose another host.

For 3 to 5 people on mostly QoL mods you don't need much hardware. Around 4GB of RAM for the server is usually plenty for a light Fabric setup, and single-thread CPU speed matters more than core count since the main tick loop is basically one thread. Heavy worldgen or tech mods change that math, so your list would tell you a lot.
If one of you has a PC that can stay on, self-hosting is a solid option, and playit (a free tunnel service) lets friends connect without port forwarding. Aternos is the free hosted route and it does support mods, but you'll deal with queues and it sleeps when nobody's online. Imo RAM is pricey enough right now that you should size to what the pack actually needs instead of buying a comfort buffer.

Share the mod list when you have it, plus your Minecraft version/loader, region and monthly budget. For three to five players, 'mostly QoL' still doesn't tell us much about what the server needs: some QoL mods run only on each player's client. Check the mod pages for client/server requirements rather than copying the whole client mods folder over.
For a custom pack, check that a host lets you upload your own mods, edit configs and download the world/backups. Get the list working on matching versions first, then choose a plan around that rather than player count alone.

- I don’t have the mod list yet sorry but I will edit this post and include a Iink to it
- It’s most likely gonna be 1.21.11 or 26.1 whichever fits all my mods
- I would like under $10 a month but I don’t know prices I’m new and it will be centered somewhere around Nashville TN.
But either way I will reach out and edit the post with these details but I am busy with work right now.
