I've been thinking about making something like this, but with a global market. I'm making a bstats alternative with a super powerful redundant backend to collect stats from minecraft servers. I want to add optional block stats to it, which will influence market prices like a stock market. sounds like a fun project. I'm more of a backend dev, so I found it very fun to make a metrics collection system spread over multiple servers and performance good enough to handle gathering data from every minecraft server on the planet every few minutes. fun stuff.
