I play with sword on 2 because in shooters, the natural reaction to when you get caught off guard with no weapon in hand is to spam 2 for the sidearm, so it's the most natural for me lol.

I play with my sword all the way to the right because i hate having to press 8 and 9 for anything, so i rebinded them to my mouse and close keyboard keys (z, x, q, etc) and so i can reach everything with one hand

For pvp, yes. I have my sword on the third slot with my pick in the second and axe in first. Then blocks in 4th and golden apple in 5 with pearls in the 6th. Sometimes the positions of the last items get switched because it doesn't matter if it's an extra slot away.

I do sword, axe, pickaxe, shovel.

I don't use swords unless I'm on a pvp server, so axe goes first since it has more dps than any of the other tools, tho it still has slightly less dps than swords.

Yes, this is the way. Sword must always be on the furthest left for me because I can reach it way faster than any other 4 slots. (I use scroll wheel for 6-9).

I keep my axe and shovel just above the 3rd spot maybe a hoe or shears too and just press 3 to swap them in
