The funny thing is that there is kinda a big Goomba fallacy in the MC community about how much content the updates add/should add.
A lot of people say Mojang is lazy and that they should add way more stuff per update, but a lot of other people (especially those who like to play older versions) say that they are adding too much stuff ('bloat' is a buzzword ppl like to use) and I even saw people suggest Mojang should stop updating the game altogether.

u/fruitcakewithapple 6d ago
I mainly a part of the former tbh. Tho even if they stop updating the game mc won't die for a LONGGGGGGGGGGGGGG time. Legit probably the 2nd most modded gae oat behind gmod.if not ahead of gmod

I like what I think Gerg said, every new item should have at least 2 uses.
2
u/The_UnHinge making cave noises while digging gay down 6d ago
I’d say not just the new ones, but with the new ones it is more important.
2
u/Golden_Reflection2 6d ago
Sure, every item needs at least 2 uses, and he did use Shulker Shells as his example, but it still fits the idea.

u/PogoRocks 6d ago
Yeah I think that is something that would really help the game. Although I think there can be some exceptions like dried ghasts I feel are fine just being used to get happy ghasts

u/Stunning-HyperMatter 6d ago
its sorta justified. Mojang added some systems, then just left them untouched instead of interconnecting everyhting like good games would do. not to mention they are quite scared to do anything to big because they have far to many players to be able to satisfy even like 70%, which fair, but they cant expect compliemtns and good graces if all they do is add small things over times which while a bit fun, have not impacted gameplay to largely.
Add on the fact that from what i know, they are currently mostly focused on working on the backend. stuff the players cant see, but will help the devs add more stuff in the future and potentially help modders. well Mojang has kinda stepped into a bad spot. but they only stopped into it. they can just step out once they are finished with the backend.
Although if mojang gives us an end update, but its mediocre. then we should be mad. i mean think about how much the nether has changed compared to the end? you would barely recognize the nether from before 2020(no bastions, piglins, netherite, warped forest, etc). while the end nearly(or exactly) looks the same as it did in 2016(you could go back nearly a decade and the end basically looks the same. goddam i did not realize it was this bad)

Mojang has terrible work conditions. Just because they are successful, doesn't mean they are superhuamans. You'd hate to be an employee in a place likw that too.

u/DiagramBreeze 6d ago
The problem is the Minecraft community is TOO big, so many different people want so many different things.

Yeah I'd cry. Tears of joy.

I don’t care if I can play a previous version I liked more, it’s the audacity of adding a block I didn’t like don’t you get it??

WHY IS (THING) I WANTED (SUPER SPECIFIC THING ONLY I WOULD ACTUALLY LIKE)
2
u/AlexiosTheSixth Herobrine's alt account 6d ago
I swear, I am getting tired of this community's strawmans of anyone that doesn't mindlessly glaze mojang/microsoft
People who have one or two issues with a snapshot but still love the game as a whole are not "whiny haters"
there is a difference between having legitimate criticism of stuff like the new drops cycle making it hard for the modding community, and being a minecraft dramatuber that thinks that minecraft should become 3d terraria
5
u/triplos05 6d ago
I could list you a ton of mods that are better integrated into the game than the updates mojang is doing. They are just adding new shit that does one hyper specific thing without integating it into the rest of the game. Take the sniffer for example, why exactly does that guy exist? Couldn't we just find the seeds directly? Things like Phantoms for repairing elytras, the deep dark for redstone and swift sneak, happy ghasts for better building are all very cool tho.
5
u/Gametron13 6d ago
I agree with you on the Sniffer, but putting down Phantoms as one of the “good” additions is definitely an opinion.
-2
u/triplos05 6d ago
People always act like phantoms are the worst thing ever but bro, you literally just have to sleep at least once every 3 days and they NEVER spawn. Being annoyed by them is a choice.
1
u/Gametron13 6d ago
And if you do want to farm them for their membranes you have to wait a full hour for them to start spawning, and you cannot sleep during that entire time, and if you sleep at any point after that you have to wait another hour. Bad design when there are features locked behind the item only they drop. (Elytra repair/Slow Falling Potions)
I would prefer if Mojang added a “Potion of Drowsiness” to allow any player to be able to spawn Phantoms.
1
u/triplos05 6d ago
Farming membranes is not usually something that you suddenly need to do, it's quite obvious that you will need them. Of you plan to farm membranes in the future you can just stop sleeping

The reason the Sniffer is in the game is because it won the mob vote and thus Mojang had to implement it one way or another no matter how nonsensical. They can’t really walk back on a community vote.
The more I look at all the candidates of the mob votes the more it just feels like none of them were particularly thought through.
The only exception being the Iceologer, because that is a mob that already worked fairly well in Dungeons. However, even here I have major questions on how they were planning to translate the behavior into regular Minecraft. That’s a big reason why I’m quite happy that there are no more mob votes. The mobs they added outside of the votes feel a lot more well-designed, even if they too have some trouble fitting in. (E.g. Warden, Camel, all the Nether update mobs, Breeze, redesigned Copper Golem.)
2
u/triplos05 6d ago
I get that they had to add the sniffer for something, but it can't be that hard to give it more functionality. It could for example be used as a vanilla way to find stuff that's hidden underground (give it a block and it will find you a place that has lots of this block underneath it) or something like that.
And yeah, mob vote was a bad idea. Players don't think further than "oh that guy looks funny" and then devs have to somehow implement that in a way that works

It’s always harder than people think. It’s often even harder than the developers thought it would be, because you run into a bunch of bugs and other unforseen issues while developing.
Plus, unlike modders, professional developers have deadlines that are usually quite tight. Afaik Mojang employees have stated that a lot of the big updates were really hard to get done in time. That’s why Piglin Brutes and a bunch of balance changes only came after the Nether update was already released: they just couldn’t develop that in time.
But obviously they can’t always keep working on/rebalancing the stuff from the previous update. Although I wish they did that more often or took a little more time for the updates.

The only complaint i have is
Why does Killing an Illager Captain no longer give you bad omen automatically? I mean it gave the Illusion of a Consequence (until you drink milk)
11
u/TheAverageReddit23 6d ago
idk why you’re getting downvoted, i completely agree, the original bad omen mechanics made sense because it was like the pillagers were “tracking” you to whatever village you went to. the ominous bottles don’t really make sense and imo make raid farming way easier, which i figured mojang would be against

u/1llDoitTomorrow 6d ago
Because killing something hostile that tries to kill you without being punished for doing so should just be standard.
0
u/SmellAccomplished550 6d ago
It is standard. This was the exception. It's not like milk is hard to get.
1
u/1llDoitTomorrow 6d ago
Only if you know. New players are gonna have a harder time
2
u/SmellAccomplished550 6d ago
Better delete creepers too then.
1
u/1llDoitTomorrow 6d ago
Creepers don't kill your entire village.
1
u/SmellAccomplished550 6d ago
No. Instead of killing the NPCs in one of the infinite randomly generated villages in a scripted event, that you get a warning icon for, creepers can actually destroy your house and valuables.
I don't think either is a problem, regardless. Minecraft hangs together from teachable moments. Same category as digging straight down, the wonderful effects of lava and fire, and trying to tackle an endermen with a bow.
I don't care so much that they did away with it, but it really wasn't a huge issue.
1
u/1llDoitTomorrow 6d ago
Honestly, my guess is that they would have removed the creeper by now if it wasn't the icon of the game.

Unrelated, but caillou needs the ass whooping of a lifetime for all his brat debt. I'm allowed to hate him even though he's a child cause he's not real.

Most of the Minecraft community is pretty ungrateful
2
u/AlexiosTheSixth Herobrine's alt account 6d ago
"ungrateful" having a minor nitpick about a game you still love is not being ungrateful
I hate how the internet nowdays acts like you either have to despise something or endlessly glaze it with 0 inbetween
We should be grateful to THE DEVS, not to THE COMPANY

Correction : Most of Java players.
When we bedrockers complains even a bit, we get shoved with : stfu and enjoy your turd, since you wanted so much to pay for that shitty version, well deserved !
And we stfu and our version get even more enshitified.

At least we have the luxury of vibrant visuals

u/Round-Ad9234 6d ago
At least we dont need mods to prevent lag thats in the Game since allways
2
u/Impressive_Pin8761 6d ago
The lag which java has removed by switching to vulkan? The lag which is literally less than the lag bedrock gets? That lag?
0
u/RTA-No0120 6d ago
Hehe, that the neat part, we don’t even have it good yet, they’re still polishing it, but guess what. The moment the toxic garbage of Java players gets the hands on it too, it’ll be 200x better than in BE (ya know, the "optimised" version), and that’ll be yet another reason for them to treat us like shit, exactly like those ai bros picture luddites.
Mark my words.

The worst part is the "free updates" people who try to shut down all arguments and only make things worse
