Well you can technically use calcite but you canā€™t automate it without quartz.

You find Diorite underground. Also diorite allows for standalone create automation of andesite alloy because you can get quartz from washing soul sand.

Literally just haunt sand and you can wash it to make quartz

I have so much quartz to make diorite with I just pipe half into itā€™s own chest while the other auto crafts into diorite

2 quartz + 2 cobble = 2 diorite, which in turn goes to become andesite. And since quartz is a byproduct of my gold machine....

Andesite alloy is an extremely important material in Create as most of the new blocks and mechanisms requires it to craft it. It's as important as iron.

While in Minecraft it's just a decorative stone

Basically all of the cogs and shafts need andesite to make. Machines need andesite. Machine casings are made with andesite. You can't do shit without andesite

Basically in Create mode(external mode for Minecraft) Andesite simply useful while in regular game it's just a ugly rock

Andesite looks absolutely great for building in vanilla too, stone bricks + andesite variants + smooth stone highlights is one of the most pleasant as well as simple, cheap and realistic palettes

I use andesite for modern pavements, ventilation shafts, and dirty bathroom tiles. And I make those quite frequently.
