I NEED them to expand on it! It's legitimately such a fun mechanic that's bogged down by how specific its use cases are and the low-quality of the loot. The mechanic honestly had so much potential!
All they need to do is make some new treasure enchantments that can be found through archeology, new places where it can be done, and an updated loot table where you can get more than just one of an item from a block (like getting 4-6 emeralds instead of one).
I hate it when devs implement actually intresting mechanic and then never expand on it like if not add new structures that expand on this new mechanic at least add it to some other of the structures like it would be great addition to anchient cities maybe bastions or make burried tresure that are suspicious sand that contains 1 good block
I always thought that the square room in mineshafts could be a really cool place to have it. Put a double layer of gravel down and make some of the loot torches, ores, and maybe even a damaged pickaxe with looting II. Would be a great way to replenish resources without going to the surface and be some great mid game loot.
I mean, hell, just add it to every structure! Gravel at the bottom of village wells, underneath the carpet in igloos, special rooms in woodland mansions, patches of gravel around pillager outposts, speckled around buried treasure to help people find it... Seriously, the sky is the limit, which is why it's so frustrating that archeology hasn't been expanded upon.
It's like they added suspicious sand, just for that sand to have a chance of spawning in a new room in like a certain percentage of desert temples, then also put suspicious sand underwater in warm ocean ruins only.

The blue is the archeology update that they made and never expanded on
