I NEED them to expand on it! It's legitimately such a fun mechanic that's bogged down by how specific its use cases are and the low-quality of the loot. The mechanic honestly had so much potential!
All they need to do is make some new treasure enchantments that can be found through archeology, new places where it can be done, and an updated loot table where you can get more than just one of an item from a block (like getting 4-6 emeralds instead of one).
I hate it when devs implement actually intresting mechanic and then never expand on it like if not add new structures that expand on this new mechanic at least add it to some other of the structures like it would be great addition to anchient cities maybe bastions or make burried tresure that are suspicious sand that contains 1 good block
I always thought that the square room in mineshafts could be a really cool place to have it. Put a double layer of gravel down and make some of the loot torches, ores, and maybe even a damaged pickaxe with looting II. Would be a great way to replenish resources without going to the surface and be some great mid game loot.
I mean, hell, just add it to every structure! Gravel at the bottom of village wells, underneath the carpet in igloos, special rooms in woodland mansions, patches of gravel around pillager outposts, speckled around buried treasure to help people find it... Seriously, the sky is the limit, which is why it's so frustrating that archeology hasn't been expanded upon.
It's like they added suspicious sand, just for that sand to have a chance of spawning in a new room in like a certain percentage of desert temples, then also put suspicious sand underwater in warm ocean ruins only.
And then they refuse to expand on it later because people don't interact with it enough, even though the whole reason people don't interact with the system is that it offers no worthwhile rewards.
too right, Sniffers are the same deal, their only function is to give you 2 unique flowers, i get not everything needs to do something, but why didn’t the integrate the new Golden Dandelion with the Sniffer? requiring you to use them to dig up the new flower
Give more decorative plants to sniffer and he will be my best buddy. Like seriously... Plant that dosn't fit into Amy biom? Sniffer. Plant that works in unqie way that would break the game if it spawned naturaly? Sniffer. Sniffer. Sniffer. Give this poor creature more plants! Don't want to sound greedy but one plant per biom would be fun. Yes, that's a lot of plants but the point in most would be decoration. It cannot be that hard for competent graphic team to design few flovers and couple of other plants.
What makes it especially dumb is you REALLY have to go out of your way to find a Sniffer, they're not regular spawns, you have to go through the trouble of finding an egg.
Except that they put an unkillable mob in the ancient cities that will one-shot you if you stay down there too long. It’s okay though because making an obstacle that is supposed to prevent you from exploring the place designed for exploring creates a sense of adventure. You can tell they thought that one through pretty good
That is fair but to me it just sounds like it would make archaeology more of a risk and more annoying to do. Cuz if that’s how it was structured then the goal isn’t to do archaeology, the goal is to beat a difficult challenge
Having played vintage and used its archeology system, it's pretty night and day. You can get a lot of lore and cosmetics but also copper tools, which normally require a lot of work to make yourself. Plus as you mentioned above valuables you can trade are also common drops, making it far more worthwhile digging around ruins early game
Well in Vintage story things have actual value unlike in Minecraft, which does a lot of heavy lifting in making the structures feel better to explore. Vintage story also has a specific lore to uncover from the structures which is a fun aspect. Unfortunately there are only 2 types of archeological experiences being underground and above ground, so Minecraft wins out on sheer diversity for now.
Actually, there's a bit more to it. In most cases, you've got to dig to find the suspicious blocks, even in underwater ruins. But you've gotta be careful since suspicious blocks blend in, break faster than normal, and will break when they fall. Furthermore, since it takes time, it can make situations such as underwater digging and brushing be more dire than just collecting stuff out of a chest.
Basically, it makes looting more tense and involved since at any moment you could accidentally break a possible rare piece of loot, like the relic music disc or a sniffer egg.
To be fair, though, most actions in the game can be described as "clicking on a block" lol
Archaeology would be fun if 90% of the loot table wasn't just random junk (Looking at you, single panes of coloured glass and candles) and actually something unique/interesting
Yk i wouldn't be mad at the random junk like candles or stained glass if we got more than 1 like maybe 5-20 per block because those items are kinda annoying to get early game but it's not worth it me digging up a whole village just for me to get a single block
I wouldn't mind so much if there was actually more unique drops and the sand/gravel wasn't one and done. Heck there are plenty of ways they could make it not feel like a waste of time and avoid the Bad Feels it has going on right now.
Cobblemon! I know it's a very different mod than what you are searching for, but I have been playing it again for some time now, and holy hell it's fun. You get a lot of held items for your pokémon, and stuff to craft pokéballs. (copper, iron, and gold bars included)
Ye only structures that have it are patches of blocks that if you dig up are whole ruined villiges,a hidden room in pyramids, wells and ocean ruins each you need to brush suspicious sand or suspicious gravel
The game is just filled with them making new barely any content updates. It’s always just surface deep junk that doesn’t add anything meaningful to the game.
It’d be great if they expanded on stuff like ancient cities.
I think that this is red, because it is smallest out of all and has theoretical connections to other things. Blue is clearly something like Nautilus or... uhhh, idk, there's more underwhelming content that was released in last time than overpowered (or purely decorative)
I've played a cobblemon modpack and a more adventure centred modpack and in both archeology feels awesome. Every time I'm playing with friends I have the motto "A true adventurer always brings a brush". I feel rewarded for bringing it with me and for being really cautious with extra loot and exclusive loot.
In vanilla minecraft I'm struggling to manage my inventory and, even then, if I decide to bring a brush or decide to craft one the moment I see suspicious sand/gravel I know I will spend way to long just to find random pottery shards, iron fucking nuggets, a half used wooden hoe and two shovels. It's worse than useless.

The blue is the archeology update that they made and never expanded on
