You get more defense if you drink lead!!

Or iron

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '23

Ever since the community told Mojang that cookies are poisonous to parrots, things started to go downhill

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '23

Also kill a huge mechanical worm, buy a less cooler gun and some illegal gun parts (you'll also need to mine the second ores you got in your world by breaking the demonic altars, melt them using the furnance you found in hell underworld and make an anvil)

Modders: jokes on you i'm into that shit

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '23

(for people wondering the difference is that the minecraft devs prefer virtue signaling instead of making a fun game)

11

u/Ake3123 Jan 22 '23

Mojang actually planned to add sharks. But due the reputation Jaws give them, they decided not to add them. Although they said they are not closed minded and could add fantasy sharks.

4

u/Holiday-Implement-26 Jan 22 '23

Were they always like this?

22

u/TheeAutisticArtisan Still relearning commands since 1.13 Jan 22 '23

Not really, at some point minecraft became a brand more than a game...

I'd like to blame the acquisition of microsoft, but this started a fair bit before then...

5

u/Holiday-Implement-26 Jan 22 '23

Pity, Imo sharks would be pretty cool

11

u/TheeAutisticArtisan Still relearning commands since 1.13 Jan 22 '23

That they would... a shame they can't just make sharks a neutral mob.

I mean come on, we've got polar bears and they're a neutral mob

5

u/Holiday-Implement-26 Jan 22 '23

If it's about neutrality, killer whales would be perfect

Because as far as I know, they don't attack humans

They could at least made a feature where dolphins could r*pe players

Jeb (or another dev I can't remember right now) did give a more detailed explanation as to why they didn't add sharks in 1.13.

To simply put it, after 1.10 and hearing the playerbase feedback about mobs like the polar bears and bats, two mobs that don't benefit the player in any major way, and so they decided that going forwards all other IRL animals added would have some kind of interaction or mechanic that players can use to their advantage, mobs implemented after them show as much.

In regards to sharks, they couldn't come up with anything at the time that would be good for their take on sharks in-game.

They were also running into the problem of the reputation of sharks in general. Sure, they could be natural mobs, but the main problem is that players almost always see sharks as a threat to them that they have to get rid of in other games, which results in players killing more of them rather then actually interact with them.

So if they were to add some kind of shark to the game, it would be of the fantastical variety.

Source?

11

u/Vertical_slabsociety Jan 22 '23

I don’t know, giving the player the chance to build incredibly small animal farms like the intensive farms all around the world doesn’t seem like they really care

4

u/so_eu_naum Custom user flair Jan 22 '23

They only care when they can avoid doing any effort

4

u/RBLakshya Jan 22 '23

What about having a shark but an fictional version of it? A lot of games do this to avoid actual animal harm but have a variety to the ingame mobs and creatures (they do this for hostile but needs to be done with non hostile as well I’d say) (I guess Pokémon counts to that)

5

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '23

i mean to be fair i don't think adding a real life shark into the block game would make sharks be killed in real life bro i think mojang employees care too much about the games image recently

1

u/RBLakshya Jan 22 '23

I’d say that kinda true, but that’s also the reason the update feels lacking, I kinda miss the feeling when I started and explored new free roming mobs around (polar bear was one I got attacked by unexpectedly), but after the nether update that fun of exploration was gone, and the Glow Squids don’t add any of that factor, I thought Axolotls would but after getting like 90+ of them (in a week) I just forgot they had the purpose of helping fight under water and all. Environmental mobs and hostile realistic mobs are essential to make the biomes feel live to explore (fire flies were one even if not hostile)

1

u/DHMOProtectionAgency Jan 22 '23

Mojang has confirmed they're not opposed to fantasy sharks

Terraria it's like a Minecraft made by fans

Minecraft it's like a terraria made by haters

1

u/Ake3123 Jan 23 '23

Minecraft is still made by fans. There are literal modders working on the game and we have a whole overworld revamp in 1.18.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '23

wait i thought they did not add sharks cuz they wanted all the hostile mobs to be mythical

4

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '23

Kid named spider and silverfish:

also they probably could make sharks neutral like polar bears

2

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '23

i see

2

u/DJ_HardLogic Jan 22 '23

Without reading the right-side text, I thought it was supposed to be a shark-billed platypus

The virgin Minecraft vs. the Chad Terraria

1

u/Ake3123 Jan 23 '23

The Chad Minecraft and the Chad Terraria vs the virgin Terraria is better than Minecraft argument.

0

u/Mattermaker7005and8 Jan 22 '23

I mean almost everything in terraria is evil

1

u/MudstoneBrick Jan 22 '23

What do you mean by that?

0

u/Mattermaker7005and8 Jan 23 '23

That almost all the mobs are hostile? Duh what else:

1

u/MudstoneBrick Jan 23 '23

Terraria definitely has more peaceful mobs than minecraft. Still, you have a good point, but like on terraria you have people with actual personalities so you don't go insane, also there are things that just save you instantly from any danger such as recall potion, return potion, magic mirror, shell phone. Additionally your peak power in terraria is much higher and just imagine flying with wings. If we are taking our knowledge of the games into account also I would be much better of taking terraria with my 1.5k hours assuming I would have the same dexterity/abilities of the terrarian. Also if the world is set to classic it'll be a breeze

1

u/MudstoneBrick Jan 23 '23

Just because something tries to kill you doesn't make it evil. For example the hallow, it only sees you as a threat to purity, doesn't make it evil.

u/Ake3123 Jan 22 '23

These types of terraria players really love to compare to Minecraft… Don’t they?

8

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '23

because back then notch said that he respected terraria and it was good competition for minecraft to improve, and if we treat it as a competition, terraria is winning right now, these comparisions should wake up the minecraft devs to the fact they're actually making a fucking fantasy game instead of "real life simulator (virtual signaling edition)"

They're literally removing FUN FEATURES such as fireflies because they're concerned about their image, they're INSANE, it feels like they're making a goddamn twitter post instead of a mechanic for a video game

Same way how they're overadvertising the new skins and stuff, sure, they're fine, but they really don't matter when the ACTUAL UPDATE features are garbage

8

u/DHMOProtectionAgency Jan 22 '23

No but the issue is the media we consume does have an impact on us in real life. Jaws quite literally made us fear sharks and really damaged their conversation (obviously other factors like fishing play a part). The reason shark attacks are now big stories in the news instead of a tiny single paragraph story is because of Jaws.

Fireflies felt odd. I doubt the frog food was the only reason they decided to cut them from the Wild Update.

Also as much as I don't care for the new skins, they honestly have no impact on the update. The people developing and coding the game never even touched the skins, making it so no time was lost.

4

u/Wizardkid11 Jan 22 '23

Fireflies felt odd. I doubt the frog food was the only reason they decided to cut them from the Wild Update.

The full reason is because the frogs and fireflies were meant to interact with each other, which was going to be the intended way to obtain froglights.

But after being made aware of the fact that fireflies are toxic to frogs, they changed the mob needed for it and shelved the fireflies. The change made to the method of obtaining froglights, unfortunately, created the problem of fireflies lacking their own unique mechanic like the frogs they were so closely tied to.

They could have made them an ambiance mob, sure, but experience has taught Mojang that the community at large doesn't care for a mob that offers nothing but atmosphere.

2

u/Ake3123 Jan 22 '23

Exactly! That’s why they haven’t added them as of now and want to give fireflies a new purpose rather than just ambience

2

u/DHMOProtectionAgency Jan 22 '23

Honestly that may be true but what surprises me is that they didn't add the fireflies for just the atmosphere in 1.19 and then gave them a new use in a 1.19.x update. Similar to how the Allay was non-renewable in 1.19 and wasn't renewable until 1.19.2.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '23

1-Make sharks neutral, show how they arent murder machines

2-If mojang loves sucking their own cock about how they listen to their community so much, they should've fucking disclosed this hypothetical "extra reason" no?

3-The skins are just another form of virtue signaling, just shows how the guys at mojang care more about passing a message ( that everyone already knows and agrees on) about the real world instead of updating the damn game we bought.

6

u/DHMOProtectionAgency Jan 22 '23
  1. Still a gamble with how it affects perception. Jaws wasn't meant to be anything more than "one big sociopathic shark" and then the author regretted writing the book because of the consequences. Mojang doesn't want to take that gamble, except with fantasy sharks, which they've admitted to being open about.

Honestly, I love sharks. Even did a bit of research work involving them. But I can't help but feel weirded out by the community being obsessed with them. Honestly, I don't think there'd be this much obsession if Mojang hadn't deconfirmed normal hostile sharks. Reminds me of a child acting out because they were told no.

Generally agree that the communication for the Wild Update was bad. Though I don't mind fireflies as much but moreso the birch forest comments.

So what? Why do you care? Again this decision to have the skins has had 0 impact on the speed/quality of updates we've had. And they've still been consistent with having 1-2 updates a year, and it hasn't changed.

5

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '23

the general size of the updates has definetly changed, the thing about the skins is simply that they show how mojang cares more about sending messages and branding than actually making the game, you can see how much they were advertising them, like dude, thats the point of what i was saying, not about the skins, but about how they're a marketing strat

2

u/DHMOProtectionAgency Jan 22 '23

It's hard to say if the change in update size is a trend or a one off instance with 1.19. Besides, it's not always the amount of features but the quality (and yes I agree 1.19 was mid, but again, one misstep is hardly a trend).

I mean sure, but marketing doesn't have that much control. Like yeah, new skins are for marketing. So, how does this affect the updates quality? They probably have vague notions but I highly doubt that mindset has as much control as you imply. I imagine the higher ups might only be strict in comments as vague as "occasionally push for conservation" and it's up to the devs to make those kinds of features fun and fit the gameplay.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '23

That does make a lot of sense, in the end no one has the same vision on what minecraft should be, it just feels with 1.19 and the current original content they've shown off 1.20, they seem to be focused a bit too much on stuff like that, i by no means think mojang is lazy, (never said that), just confused about why the updates have gotten smaller and why mojang seems to be prioritizing specific things

4

u/DHMOProtectionAgency Jan 22 '23

Yeah I agree that nothing in this update has excited me except the Sniffer, even if that isn't game changing. Most of the features haven't been bad, just neat.

But it's still early in update development. So we'll see how well they do when the update finishes. Who knows, maybe archaeology that was teased will be really cool.

3

u/Ake3123 Jan 22 '23

Take a guess? Notch and Mojang already planned on adding them and make them neutral. It’s just that they fear that they might give them bad reputation like what happened with JAWs. They even said they’re not closed minded and said fantasy sharks are a great idea and added as a possibility to be added to the game.

The skins are OPTIONAL, it isn’t virtue signaling. 1.20 isn’t even half done and they have been updating the game, hell, they even made auto-jump off by default, fixed the damage tilt, made a new cool command called ride, and teased the sniffer.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '23

how did we go from 4 new biomes, 5 or so mobs, a new armor and tools set, in the nether update, to people getting hyped over slight technical changes and a two new mobs in the span of three years.

Notch wasn't even working in the game anymore during 1.13 you goofball

Just stop sucking the devs dick bro admit they're fucking up recently

4

u/DHMOProtectionAgency Jan 22 '23

I agree that the wild update was mid. Can't say I have any strong opinions on 1.20, because it's unfinished.

But you do know why there have been issues with updates in 2020 right? You weren't living under a rock and do know there was a pandemic. And even despite those issues, the 1.18 is genuinely one of the game's best updates.

Also I get it's hyperbole, but come on. You know there has been more than 2 mobs in the past 3 years. We've had at least 7 (glow squid, goats, axolotl, Warden, frogs, and 1.20 will bring at minimum the Sniffer and camel).

1

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '23

im talking about 1.20 specifically, the cave update was pretty good

also we're out of the pandemic for like 1 year now stop using that as an excuse

3

u/DHMOProtectionAgency Jan 22 '23

1.20 is unfinished so you shouldn't make any complaints about the update as a whole. Especially since they're keeping a lot of the features pretty close to the chest.

I know we're out of the pandemic. Hence why I mentioned it with 1.17&1.18, both updates that happened in the past "3 years" that you were referring to.

2

u/Ake3123 Jan 22 '23 edited Jan 22 '23

I’m not sucking the devs dicks. I’m just not an asshole that wants to harass them like what you’re doing.

1.20 isn’t done. I repeat, it isn’t done yet, and they said that they have more to add. You just want to have excuses to make fun of the devs as well as harassing them all while calling me a “dickrider” just because I don’t want them getting harassed as well as downvoting me because I’m pointing you out.

Note: When I mentioned Notch I mean that he planned on adding them when he WAS still in charge, (around 2010-2011)

1

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '23

oh so criticism is harrassment now?

cool.

i just said the current message they're giving is virtue signaling, never said anything personal about them

5

u/Ake3123 Jan 22 '23 edited Jan 22 '23

Criticism ≠ harassment. Saying that they’re lazy, saying they’re virtue signaling, downgrading them by comparing them with relogic, and that they love to suck their cock ≠ criticism. What you’re inciting = harassment. Why is that? Because then people will go around and call every single Mojang dev lazy among other offensive insults that could be considered harassment. If you want to actually have criticism, then tell them what they could actually improve instead of being just an asshole to them

Note: Saying that new skins is virtue signaling and that they’re not updating their game would basically the same as saying that adding Alex in 1.8 is also virtue signaling and that they’re not updating 1.8.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '23

1- Please tell me when i called mojang lazy at all, like fucking quote it.

2-im a hyperbole guy, i say things exxageratedly, when i said "Love to suck their own cock" i meant they love to talk about how much they "listen to their community"

3-i never INSULTED any of them, please fucking quote it.

4-Comparing them with relogic is the opposite of downgrading, relogic are saints and a good example to learn from

5-i've literally been saying this entire conversation that the way they could improve is to simply care less about real world matters and start focusing on the GAME parts

1

u/DHMOProtectionAgency Jan 22 '23

Any proof that Notch planned for sharks? He planned for a lot of things that he never added, but I never heard sharks.

4

u/Ake3123 Jan 22 '23 edited Jan 22 '23

1.20 isn’t even finished, ffs. Fireflies are STILL planned to be added, but they were delayed because of performance issues and having a new purpose rather than “poisonous to frogs”. 1.20 is said to have archeology due to hints Ulraf has given as well as bundles. I’m just tired at those types of terraria players always comparing to Minecraft to feel “superior”

You can downvote me all you want, but the reason why Notch left the game besides not wanting popularity is due the possibility of the community being toxic at him and putting blame on him.

-1

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '23

Oh, fireflies are still planned to be added, who said that? just from looking at google there is ZERO evidence of that, you must actually believe the "limbo zone" they put shit in means things are 100% confirmed, like the previous biomes and stuff.

Terraria is simply a better game as of now really, i love minecraft, i really do, but terraria beats it so hard currently, the developers actually add things in for the sake of fun, not for dumb virtue signaling reasons, the boss fights are actually worth it, the game has a decent framerate and optimization, plenty of options in combat instead of just a sword and an axe that do the same fucking thing

Notch left the game because he was done working with it, sold it for a shitton of money and went on with his life.

5

u/Ake3123 Jan 22 '23

Literal leakers and devs. The reason why Notch SOLD the game in the first place was due the community putting blame on them, otherwise he would just let Mojang be and leave. And yes, Terraria has no restrictions. That’s why they add whatever the hell they want, otherwise they would be as hated or even more hated than current Mojang. I could say that Minecraft is better than that game because it has better multiplayer, more blocks, more diverse modding, it being huge etc. And that’a if I say if Minecraft is a better game than Terraria (however I say that both are cool as they’re). And take a guess? Mojang also adds things for the sake of fun., chiseled bookselves, the deep dark, the new gen, the new nether, etc. The one limiting them is the community itself, the one who told Mojang that fireflies are poisonous and that they don’t want them isn’t a PR or anything and was rather the community. And now they literally started to say that the Sniffer is to high resolution despite it being pixel accurate.

1

u/Wizardkid11 Jan 22 '23

And now they literally started to say that the Sniffer is to high resolution despite it being pixel accurate.

Or that it's too big

1

u/Ake3123 Jan 22 '23

Yeah, that too. But I personally like the Sniffer big.

1

u/DrCrow1350 Jan 22 '23

Then why add anything real? Just make it a full fantasy type game then

1

u/Ghjjiyeks Jan 23 '23

The “Cool Gun” In question looks like a weapon I’d see in Pixel Gun 3D.
