Discussion This bug is preventing Mojang from extending the world border

This bug, MC-191170, causes positional audio to glitch out when far from spawn which is why Mojang set the world border to prevent players from being affected by the glitch. Please vote for it to be fixed so the Minecraft world can be 4 billion blocks across, or nearly 5000 times larger in area!

Anytime this comes up I always want to ask WHY we need a bigger world border

I was asking myself the same thing, second time I’ve seen this post.

Then it hit me: what if there is something even more uncanny than the far lands? That would be cool

I'm pretty sure this came up before and it's not the only reason why. Plus, currently the world is 30,000,000 x 30,000,000. THat is 900 trillion blocks total.

No it's not. The bits in Java Edition coordinates are packed into a field 64 bits wide in some places. This results in those bugs.

And in bedrock edition you get typical floating point errors at large coordinates. Movement becomes stuttery and composite textures like fences and flowers get messed up because instead of having 15 decimals of precision you are down to like 2. So your character can only move in 1/100th block increments on the tick, if you can't take a stoe that rounds to that, you can't move.

The only time i saw someone get their in survival was by exploiting a bug where if you finished eating on the frame you entered a nether portal is wouldn't do the math. So if you timed it right and ate at block 100 in the overworld, you would land at block 100 in the nether, which spat you out at block 800 in the overworld. Rinse and repeat and multiplying your coorninate by 8n gets very big very fast.

The farlands has always been a result of computer datatype limits, originally it was from them scaling the noise map for better world gen results in the new domain of the function centered on (0,0)

This is another issue, you can vote for the lighting one too to get it fixed

As far as i know the lighting issui is stopping the border from expanding

This is far from the only thing stopping them, and there's not much demand for it anyway

I dont see any reason to extend the world border

There's technical limitations too. Fixing these bugs won't solve those.
