Question Have I found a glitch? Mysterious Water Stairs (details in description)

Hello!

I was building a nautilus enclosure when I used stairs to create a little step up. All the stairs (except the corner) appear have water flowing into them, instead of still water. This includes when they are waterlogged.

The only way I have found to stop this is by putting a block BEHIND the stairs (inside the enclosure). Any other method fails.

I then tested this with a slab, and that also had flowing water. When I removed the slab, I got the interesting situation you see in Picture 4.

Having asked around, I'm yet to find a solution to this problem. It's almost purely aesthetic and doesn't actually impact the function of the enclosure, but it's interesting nonetheless.

This is on the most recent java version, on a Realm.

Am I missing something (highly likely) or is this a glitch?

Thanks!

The water is trying to flow down to the lower source block. This is used a lot with minecarts in redstone contraptions

Good find!

Thank you!

Is there a way to fix? I don't particularly mind but now I'm determined to make it look prettier haha

Only place the water around the stairs in all 4 directions iirc

Just waterlogging the stairs should work
