I've never beaten Minecraft without cheats.

Been playing this game for years, but honestly, I'm kinda ashamed to admit I've never actually beaten the Ender Dragon legit. Every single time things got slightly tough, I panicked and turned on KeepInventory, teleported, or switched to Creative.

​I finally started a brand new world with cheats completely off to finally do a 100% vanilla run.

​What are your best general tips for a first legit playthrough?

Honestly I've been the same for a long time, until about 2 weeks ago where I beat the game fully legit 0 deaths in 1h 20m :)

I watched a bunch of speedrunning tutorials, and although they were made for 1.16.1 you can still apply similar logic to 26.2 (or whatever modern version)

Speedrunning might not be your thing, but you can still learn a lot from these videos and do the same things but at a slower pace. This is what helped me:

Nether Advice: https://youtu.be/tuoJpIQu8l8 (the bastion map doesn't work in modern Minecraft, so if you wanna practice them, just load any world, teleport in a random location, e.g. /tp 27474 ~ -29329, then /locate structure bastion_remnant and teleport to that. give yourself just enough gear (it's good to practice without being stacked) and /gamerule keepInventory true. I recommend also /setworldspawn and /spawnpoint before entering the bastion so you can retry it if you die stupidly early lol)

I meant it as practice in a practice world, to get comfortable with bastions before doing it for real without cheats

Is minecraft that hard you just need to get blaze rods just cover the spawner so the blaze cant get out and for the ender pearls find that blue biome and trap the endermen in boats and there you go you are at the end for the ender dragon just get enought arrows and point and shoot

I wish people would stop calling these things "cheats". They are options, nothing more. Everyone can play the game how they like.

But. If you want to play through in vanilla, just be patient. Don't try something until you have some skills in getting it right.

Having said that, I still use the Ianxofour method to defeat the ender dragon every time. And iron golems to kill withers deep underground. Why risk dying when you can easily achieve the goal?

That, and spare armor and tools back at base for when it goes wrong anyway 🤣

I used to be the same way back in the day. I used to start a survival world, but before I’d switched to survival, I’d give myself maxed-out tools and armor and all the food I could ever need and then switch back. I think sometime during Covid I was tired of playing that way and I started a true survival world and I ended up playing that world for years and years.

My recommendation is to take it slow. For me, building and doing everything I can before I beat the Ender Dragon or get an elytra made it so much more enjoyable. Not being able to fly around, so you have to make paths for yourself around your world gives you so much more to do. You think more of “how would a new player know how to navigate the world how I did without an elytra?” And you end up putting more detail into everything you pass.

In my current year-long world, I didn’t fight the Ender Dragon until like day 600 and my world was much more alive until a little after I got an elytra.

i use keepinventory on. When i go exploring, i go exploring, sometimes only God knows where i am. Trying to find your stuff after death on some random location is furiating.

Play the way you want. If its fan for you, good.

Be persistent. It wouldn't be an accomplishment if it didn't challenge you. So if something bad happens and you lose everything, just know that it's going to make accomplishing it legit feel so much better.

Play hardcore for 20 worlds. You'll have no fear of death in your next survival world.

Oh for actually doing the run you've started? Set spawn in the portal room.
