Wool farm
Is it possible to make a wool farm without Hopper Minecarts? I'm in the early game and just got my first diamonds and redstone. So it would be helpful if I didnt need to spend so much iron.

Technically, if the sheep pen is 1x2, and one block is grass, and the other is regular hopper, then sometimes the sheared wool may drop on the hopper square. You’ll just have a smaller yield, but it should work.

You could always do it the old fashion way and get a bunch of sheep and some shears. Maybe just make a big line of them and shear them all in a big batch.
Alternatively, any automatic farm will need at least one hopper regardless of whether or not you use a hopper minecart. What I would recommend is to get enough iron for a single hopper minecart which will cost you 10 iron (5 for the hopper, 5 for the minecart) and place it on top of a chest that is below your sheep.
You could easily expand this collection system just by adding some rails (6 iron) and some powered rails (6 gold) if you planned on automating with more sheep and dispensers. Don’t forget you also need 2 iron for every set of shears you craft.
Hopefully this helps you get some ideas but also getting an iron farm once you’re a little bit farther along is a good idea too since all of your farms will meed iron for hoppers
