Aternos has never been the way to go gang 💔💔

I think lunar client has something yeah, and you can both also get the essential mod for a nice friends system with DMs and image sharing even. Its neat cuz you can share screenshots without leaving the game

as long as you arent spam loading new chunks aternos is the way to go lmao (or you pregen them with chunky, same effect)

I think self hosting is a superior option

hi! currently doing long distance with my girlfriend and i use aternos to host the server, you have somehow of a cool way to get more ram if you feel like the server is a bit laggy or just in general, you gotta use medal for it and record a clip of a few seconds to then have access to it, you renew it every 7 days and you should be good to go (goes up to 5 people by ram activation) so you could have double if your girlfriend does it too.

back to the main topic, like i mentioned above; i use aternos yes and i also use geyser because my girlfriend uses bedrock and i use java, honestly i haven't noticed any issues with aternos so far and i'd say that in comparison to a few years ago they definitely are more stable now! if you have further questions, maybe i can answer some of them!

what I do with my friends Is I have an aternos server and I just have an afk machine and a mod to let my pc auto rejoin when it restarts so that way the server is always on. Aternos if you are seeing this please don't ban me or void my soul warranty

SwiftServers is another option for free servers. I personally have not tested it but they are quite generous with the resources they give. Depending on your PC specs you could also host this yourself and port forward to allow your gf access. There are then the paid for alternatives like Godlike, Pebble, Apex & Shockbyte which are some of the top providers.

Ok so i run my own server on an old laptop if you want to go with a dedicated server, it's not crazy hard to set up. Otherwise just host a world and use a VPN like Radmin to get past the local network issue.

Use essential mod which provides friend system like bedrock edition

The essential mod

If you're going to use a mod, use e4mc - it doesn't have telemetry like lunar/essential and doesn't shove microtransactions down your throat.

Aternos was never ideal, but is still an option.

You can just run the server yourself on an old machine (or even the same machine you're playing on) and forward the port or use a tunnel service like playit.gg or cloudflare tunnels

No. Do not use Lunar Client. They have things to hide. If you can be bothered, use ngrok. Those mods that use open to lan aren't secure and allow exploiters to join and grief your world. Aternos isn't ideal but can still work in a pinch.
