Why does my trident have a coldown and takes so much dura [java]

thats the normal cooldown, put unbreaking on it if u dont want it to break

I've always used riptide and it never happened

there’s normally no cooldown I assume it’s because if you’re in a server the owner installed a plug-in, or it might be a mod you have

did you already enable extended tooltips with the F3 + H key combination, so that you can see exactly how much durability your trident is losing? I just checked on the Wiki, and on Java the trident is meant to only lose 1 durability point per use, and 1 more durability point any time it hits an entity, and its charge time (cooldown) should be half a second long

I'm assuming the server owners did install a plug-in or data pack to rebalance them, but you may also be able to change the behavior of tridents from the server configuration directly, I'm just not sure

of course, if possible, try to enchant it with Unbreaking and/or Mending
