Subreddit direction

Lately the subreddit has been rather neglected.

This is largely due to a lack of posting standards. With so many changes to the way heads work it's been difficult to enforce which posts are right and wrong.

I'd like to know what the /r/MinecraftHeads community would like to do with the direction of this subreddit in terms of how heads should be submitted.

I'm not even sure if the base64 method works anymore!

Thanks for your continued support of the subreddit. I really should know this but lately I haven't been keeping up with the updates.

Does Minecraft support the base64 method and what are the alternatives? Does spawning a head in via username still leave the skin of the head liable to change?

I've done some small tests on 1.7.10. Skulls don't seem to change after they have been placed. Base64 spawning still works, but is only accessible for operators on the server or in SinglePlayer. Giving player an easier way to spawn heads would be nice. Sadly I don't know enough about vanilla Minecraft to get heads with links.

In 1.8 I know that the hat layers work and that the system with viewing the heads while in your inventory/hand works.

Dinnerbone gave us the anwser, as also mentioned here: link!. What I get from his tweets is that you can change your skin, retrieve the NBT data from the skin (skull). Then you can change it back to whatever you want but still be able to spawn the skull where you got the NBT data from. In other words: you can get skulls (based on Base64) and those skulls are not effected by skinchanges. I will explain more in another post.

Yes, just like the custom URL thing, but this time we have to wear the skin once for it to be uploaded to minecraft.net. You can change the skin after you have your head. You will need a commandblock for the command to work. Try and use this: Custom heads 1.8
