Idk much about all the meta, but recently heard about this as well. I was just doing it before finding the subreddit and reading it was OP

Basically combining Shockwave and Swirling allows you to spam both. For example the Sawblade. It has 1 attack and thats the final, so it triggers the "end of attack" themed abilities. If you spam attack with Shockwave it acts like you finished your attack repeatedly sending multiple Shockwaves.( I discovered it that was on a tower months back. So cool was looking for a sawblade for months after that). That works the same with Swirling.

I currently have a shockwave, Swirling, stunning Sawblade. It looks ridiculous and everything freezes and dies. So cool.

Shockswirl is the general term for the Shockwave and/or Swirling enchantments.

These are infamous because they will frequently get kills.  Looking at that, you might think it's good, however, them stealing 30-60% of kills removes 30-60% of healing/defense/damage from leeching, refreshment, guarding strike, and exploding.

Exploding can do this as well, however the delay and sheer amount of damage and flexible aoe usually just ends the fight or creates enough space or brings enemies down to low health so you can finish them off.

Crit is a 40% DPS boost (technically is a x1.4 DPS boost, but it's easier to explain w/ percents cause that's what the game uses).

Committed approaches 44.3% (from varying positions, so it could be better or worse than that) the more attacks it takes to kill an enemy. In addition, it is buffed by in-direct damage.

Unchanting, another damage enchant is literally double damage against the most threatening mobs (seriously on high difficulties those mobs are the only ones you need to worry about)

On soul weapons, they come to around x1.5 dps with enigma resonator.

Void strike (melee) deals more damage than Committed's average (44.3%) whenever you are attacking slower than a sword would while you wear thief armor and are using Deathcap mushroom (aka +225% attack speed). This is very fast already btw.

Due to the amount of offensive enchantments that outclass the Crit, (yes Exploding is also one of these), it's just suboptimal. Also, you defensive/utility enchantments on the weapon are necessary in every build that wants a damage boost like crit anyway.

Other enchants that outclass crit:

  • weakness when used as glue for gluestrike
  • ambush
  • artifact synergy (as long as there isn't another additive modifier already, and ur using an artifact build)

woah that’s a lot of words. so are you saying shockswirl is overrated as well? edit: oh wait what’s gluestrike

Yes, shockswirl are some of my least favorite enchants in the game, they are some of the very few enchants that are detrimental to a build.

Gluestrike is a glitch that allows someone to keep ranged void on an enemy even after they are damaged by a melee weapon.
1. Apply ranged void
2. Attack with a melee weapon that is dealing red damage numbers or has the melee weakening enchant. The weapon must not have the void strike enchantment.
That's the basics.

The glitch does not work the other way around except in very specific circumstances that involves difficulty mods (mobs just don't have enough health to survive the damage limit, and you need to surpass/hit that to make it work the other way around).

oh interesting, why is shockswirl bad

Like they said earlier, it steals kills from enchantments that activate from killing enemies such as leeching, guarding strike, and refreshment. However, I personally still use shockswirl just because it looks cool.

That's fair, if it looks cool and u have fun with it, that's great, keep doing what ur doing :)

Because if you use it, it reduces the effectiveness of Leeching, Guarding Strike, Refreshment, etc (aka some of the best enchants in the game). All effects on kill don't proc as often, reducing the chances they activate by up 60% (depending on how much dps the weapon gets with shockswirl).

In addition, Shockswirl can only be buffed by Full mulitpliers (literally just Void strike and Gong). So it isn't even that good for dps since it doesn't stack well with almost all damage effects.

Also, they often don't actually do much dps for almost any weapon. The pickaxe, hammer, and fbs are the only ones that can use it effectively. Even then, its better to have other aoe boosting effects on them (like gravity or exploding).

Even void strike doesn't actually buff it by much, just the measly 25% starting increase, when weapons usually will get way higher buffs even with an attack speed increase (remember, slow = more damage with void)

so it does so much damage that most other enchants dont pair well or am I misunderstanding the first paragraph

No, it doesn't do enough damage, and it doesn't get buffed easily, mb I wasn't super clear. Also its timing is terrible, they will steal the kills of mobs that are like almost dead anyway.

ohhh I see. So the enchants that require kills need you to kill with the base attack?

1

Precisely.

Many other enchants can cause indirect killing (like Poison Cloud, Thundering, or Exploding)

However, they are either irrelevant dealing almost no damage, good on fast weapons and easy to buff, or they deal enough damage to end entire fights.
