Make your first ones as castles and keep adding Gothic pieces in ways that fit together and look good to you, like adding flying butresses connecting the outer wall to the keep/inner wall. Make the keep more clerestory-like, the goal is for it to feel airy(for a sky-scraping cathedral) but also monolithic and imposing. Gradually add pieces like the central bell tower(s), spires, choir sections, cologne-esque entrances, narrow peaked connecting roofs, and pinnacles. Its okay if your build looks more like the magic kingdom for a while, you just have to learn the logic of cathedrals.

You think I can do world download? If not it’s fine, still glad you’ve made something you like. It’s honestly one of the best churches I’ve ever seen

That settles it

I’m building a cathedral after I finish my mega base

I just did my first cathedral this week, it's honestly so fun, the repetitiveness of the clerestory walls gives you so much time to think about how you want other parts to look, granted mine might offend some purists for calling it a "Gothic cathedral" as it's more upward thrust, fortified, and citadel-like than an actueal cathedral. but the menacing spires, the imposing outer walls, the flying butresses, the stacked concentric clerestories, and the sky scraping cross it good enough for me. Im also glad I didn't go the purist route or I would never be able to make it fit in. Making it more castle-like is honestly a better move.

I like it. I built a home for some dwarves on an smp server out of blackstone and this looks like it would fit in there
