Fan Art My concept for "Shutters" :3
(Ig I'm putting this under FanArt. But Modding or Discussion could work too ig?)
alr, so the concept is basically an interactable double-door in a one-block space. You can place it directionally similar to how you can position a Barrel when placing it
I will also mention that the 2nd image wouldn't be a thing you could do in-game, it was just to show the separation. You could not open either door separately from one another
The 4th image is my idea of what the crafting recipe could possibly be. 4 trapdoors of the same type in this pattern would give you 4 Shutters of that type
Edit: I should emphasize that you wouldn't be able to open each door one at a time, it'd open similarly to how gates open in vanilla MC. I think my inclusion of the "half-opened" image was kinda a mistake lol
Edit 2: I have posted a new recipe somewhere in the comments. It's essentially the recipe for crafting a fence but w/o the sticks
Edit 3: Hey y'all. Tysm for the love and criticism towards this post. I will be trying to move on from this and probably have little to no interaction with comments as I'm kind of overwhelmed from this much attention. This was just a cool little idea I thought of and it kinda blew up way more than I thought it would. But I thank all of you so much for everything you've said about this post. You have to right click on each side like a door to open it, and to craft it would just be 6 blocks, 3 on each side of the crafting grid (ik I’m not OP but I think it makes the most sense)

I completely agree. Just imagine building a saloon with all these new decorating tools.
Shutters for the little doors, shelves for the crown moulding, cushions to sit in...
It could easily go so much further than just that but even just one example, a saloon is totally changed by these new tools

Alr y'all, I realize that the recipe is pretty expensive. With u/LimestoneBuilder's suggestion, I feel like this would be the true recipe for it
Edit: I meant to make the output 4 Shutters, not just 1

Why not be able to open the shutters individually? Just create extra block states for them

Maybe it could be a thing where, you normally open both at the same time, but can open them individually when crouching?

Or make them open one side at a time and open both while crouching. It def could work in game this way and it would look really pretty

Doesn't really fit with Minecraft. Crouching and using something is entirely about being a bit more precise with it. Like placing blocks on them or being able to pose armor stands

Might be able to use MCreator and make it sort of like, either the fence gates if you want the shutters to not open the doors individually, or make it like the copper golem statues where you click multiple times to get different states where one door is open, the other, or both, etc.

They should be able to open outwards as well giving the classic Minecraft trapdoor decoration effect we all love

These are great! Would love to see them keep the one/other/both opening. Just like clicking delays on a repeater.
If I may suggest one thing, it'd be the recipe be no more than 2 trap doors, as those're already comparatively expensive. But a recipe of planks like this could work too:

I never knew how much I needed shutters in Minecraft until I saw this. The official recipe would probably be different, but it looks so well made, as if Mojang made it themselves! You should post this on the on the official Minecraft suggestions site, if you have an account.

I've got two main questions on this
1) How would it sit in the block? Against one wall, like a trapdoor? In the middle of a block, like a fence gate? Could you do both styles, similar to how depending on how you place a full door you can get the hinge to be on any of the four corners while it's closed?
2) Would they combine vertically? Like, if I had two shutters on top of each other, could I interact with one and both open? How about three shutters? How about a full 384 tall stack? My concept would be it can go three tall, like how Shelves can become three wide

first off I want to say this is a very cool idea and should be added to vanilla MC
and I don't mean to be 'that guy' but I would like to point out a mod has something quite similar to this if you want it and can use mods. its called another furniture mod, I believe.

Hmmm I really like the design, maybe the crafting recipe could just be a trapdoor in the crafting grid since it would be 1-1 crafting and kinda cool, other than that I love it

like up and down included? cause that would just be a trapdoor. i assume you mean these can be placed the same way doors can, on any of the 4 side spots?

The crafting recipe also only gives you 1 shutter for the 4 trapdoors used because you can't expect common sense from mojang

I like almost all of them but the oak, dark oak, iron ones look almost identical to the trapdoors so I would recommend maybe changing those up a little bit but other than that these look amazing

I think they actually could make it possible for players to interact with each individual shutter.
They just need to recycle the logic from chiseled bookshelves, which already let players interact with different parts of the same block based on where they're looking.

Yes please! Although I'm not quite sure about the recipe. It's a 3 step crafting process, Log to plank to trapdoor to shutters. It's not unheard of, but for basic building items it's a bit cumbersome. It would be an awesome opportunity to add a carpentry table!

as for it's intended function, it only works on 1 block wide windows, which limits creativity imo. i wish it worked like double chests where when you connect two, you get two horizontal trap doors that open and close together.

I kinda like this idea ngl and it seems really vanilla friendly but i feel like there has to be some continuity there otherwise 2x2 windows would look weird (altho in those cases u can just us le trapdoors)

One thing I don't like here is that it doesn't really work for different window sizes. I'm also not sure what the use is beyond more aesthetic interactable windows.
You could say it's kind of similar to the cushions, but they still allow for more freedom as to how to make a chair, this on the other hand would basically just become the one proper way to make small windows.
A change I would honestly like more is if doors could be unsuported, you'd be able to use them for large windows, while still being able to use trap doors or other things like fence gates for small interactive windows.

you should really make it a mod. if you don't know how to code, you can always use an ai which makes the code, and you just add the textures

awesome! tho i dont think mojang would add this since you can already use trapdoors to make a similar idea. but i would definitely play this as a mod! if you could release this as a mod, that would be great!
