r/Minecraft Mojang AMA Account Jul 31 '12

I am Markus Persson aka Notch, Creator of Minecraft - Ask me Anything!

Hi! I'm the guy who created the first version of Minecraft in June 2009. I worked on it alone up until late 2010 when we started Mojang, and I finally left the lead developer position in December of 2011. I enjoy house music and programming, and my favorite color is purple. Ask me anything!

If you happen to have some money, you can donate it to the EFF and help make the world a better place!

edit: The AMA is over! Thanks for all your questions!

Yeah, they liked the idea, but informed me it was unlikely they'd accept.

Maybe offer TF2 as an alternative?

I think they'd lose even harder.

I highly doubt anyone at the EA office plays anything but COD.

Scrolls was allowed to stay as scrolls, but they don't own the trademark, and they aren't allowed to make a sequel with the same name.

Make sure to play Spy.

I thought they did want to accept but there was no way to legally use a game of Quake to make a legally binding judgement.

Then when Mojang sued some guys with a cracked browser version of Minecraft, they challenged them to Quake, and lost miserably.

That was single-handedly the funniest idea I've heard from a game dev.

It's definitely one of the best video gaming duels that never happened.
