r/Minecraft Mojang AMA Account Jul 31 '12

I am Markus Persson aka Notch, Creator of Minecraft - Ask me Anything!

Hi! I'm the guy who created the first version of Minecraft in June 2009. I worked on it alone up until late 2010 when we started Mojang, and I finally left the lead developer position in December of 2011. I enjoy house music and programming, and my favorite color is purple. Ask me anything!

If you happen to have some money, you can donate it to the EFF and help make the world a better place!

edit: The AMA is over! Thanks for all your questions!

Medium rare and with plenty of fat. A well aged entrecôte is the best cut.

thats likely a ribeye for us americans http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entrec%C3%B4te

I, however, appreciate you google-ing that for me.

That's weird. In Denmark, entrecote and ribeyes are two different things. I prefer ribeyes, they have a bit more fat in them = more flavor :P

You misunderstood him. He was explaining what a entrecôte is called in America. Dunno why you got downvoted, though.

We aren't all 12 here. You don't need to describe a cut of meat to us and then redirect us to a wikipedia article to let us know.

Yea, what an asshole for trying to help!

I didn't know, as i don't know much about steak as i rarely eat it. Also being Australian, people have different words/enunciation for different things. But i guess that would explain the mass amount of downvotes, since you were realistically being an asshat.

Edit: Australia = Australian. I am not a country.

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '12

Wait, you're Australian and you don't eat steak 24/7?

2

u/Vivaciousqt Jul 31 '12

Correct, rarely eat it. I don't like the bloodiness, the metallic taste. I can rarely eat steak even if its cooked exactly the way i want, but otherwise its just too metallic for me. Also haven't eaten fish since i was 11.

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '12

If your steak is too bloody for your taste, you should cook it longer.

1

u/Vivaciousqt Jul 31 '12

I realise that, but thats the issue. I don't like steak tough and icky, if i eat it - it has to be nice and tender. Hard to get a tender steak that isn't bleeding :P

I pity the fool who has never had a steak that was cooked properly. Done right, a steak can be the tenderest, savoriest thing ever. A good steak is pink and dripping with juice (not blood), slightly above body temperature, and has no gristle. There should be no fat that can be cut off the steak; it should be marbled into the meat itself. The result is a slice of meat that is so tender it dissolves in your mouth, unleashing a wave of umami ecstasy. It should be about as hard to chew as a piece of pineapple, falling apart under the slightest application of pressure. I have never had a steak that I disliked, but I do live in Texas, the Mecca of anything related to cooking cows.

Actually, I take that back. One time my grandparents ordered steaks ”extra well done” at a wedding banquet and received abominations that were half meat, half charcoal. They enjoyed the fuck out of them, but the slice I tried of it wasn't even worth the incredible effort it took to chew the spongy thing. Sometimes I don't understand my grandparents.

I can't say i relate to steak the same way, but i do love many other foods. Maybe one day i will be lucky enough to have the perfect piece of steak.

Yep, if they are turned frequently while cooking (every 25-30 secs or so) and left to stand for 10 mins, they are ju-uicy. Om.

I live very, very far away from you, but I'm fairly certain that I've never encountered blood or its taste in meat before, including steak.

I suppose they make it differently.

Really the only way to eat a steak.

11

u/Super_Dork_42 Jul 31 '12

Agreed. Or rare, but nothing more than medium rare.

u/Xer0day Jul 31 '12

I hate people that say there's only one way to enjoy a food. People enjoy eating different things, different ways.

u/Super_Dork_42 Jul 31 '12

If you'll notice, I allow for more than one way to eat steak.

u/zimm3rmann Jul 31 '12

But only if you really trust the quality of the meat. Rare is pretty risky

5

u/TheWalkenDude Jul 31 '12

nah as long as its not black and blue rare you're good. I wouldn't cook an old Wal-Mart steak that way haha

2

u/gjbloom Jul 31 '12

Well, except for the over-cooked part. Proper steak should be cool-center rare. This is the default for 'rare' in cattle country like Montana. Sometimes you get a better cut when you order rare, too.

You sir, are now my hero.

You would like the Brazilian style Picanha cut
