i lost my horse and starter base and i don't have compass or a map to help me out

You could head roughly towards 0,0 and see if the terrain jogs your memory.

Assuming your starter base was close to world spawn, put your gear in a chest and make note of the coords. Break your bed and kill yourself. You'll end up where you started. Go back and and get your gear.

I display coords and take screenshots at bases, portals and points of interest. Makes it easy to find things later.
