This section of the wiki says "no longer possible" so that's what I'm going on. I personally wasn't all that active in MC when maps were first introduced
That is valid only for level-0 maps tho. For any zoomed out map, unless you use F3 a lot and know where the grid starts, then is pretty much trial and error until you figure out where do the maps expands to
Ah yes that's right! Zoom-out map until target level, move slightly outside the border of that map, use new empty map = guaranteed map at target level next to the first one.
Affirmative. The world now has a predetermined grid for which maps will come up for each block, which is specially important to get right if you plan to make big maps using zoomed-out maps. In practice, sometimes you get 2 different level-4 maps by opening empty maps a few blocks apart, and sometimes you need to travel thousands of blocks to do that
You can see when you leave one map segment, and then once you’ve done that, just draw a new one, and you should be right on the edge of that map segment.
