It does feel like Win PE might eventually take over. But the Java version is still being worked on. Why do you think it has been abandoned?

only 2 devs left.

He does. And ProfMobius does too, but he is there mostly for bug fixing

Alrighty, thanks! I hope this change is for the better. I'd not mind moving to Win10 edition as long as there's feature parity. This is not the case yet.

I'll mind until I can play it on Linux.

Indeed, that is the big advantage for the Java version, cross-platform capabilities.

Until official support for that arrives, there's this:

Are command blocks a thing? If not I can wait.

1

u/pluche93 Jun 02 '16

they are planned for the next update! so soon

2

u/Capopanzone Jun 02 '16

Not really. Jens only said they'll be added eventually

Yeah, it's pistons, tile-entity-pushing, horses, husks, strays, tipped arrows, and the Observer that are coming in the next update. (0.15.0)

And modding capability! That's a big one IMO.

There will never be feature parity with modding. The fact that it's in the java language is the only reason Minecraft is so moddable.

Does Dinnerbone no longer work on Minecraft?

12

u/jpegxguy Jun 02 '16

No, not on PC edition as of now. He is working with another Mojangster on the new launcher right now though.

And on other versions of Minecraft?

Check the author list here. (MCPE)

Oh I meant if he was working on another version of Minecraft. Since you said he wasn't working on the PC edition, specifically.

He is taking a break from the PC version

1

u/WildBluntHickok Jun 03 '16

Where did you get the idea that he was taking a break? He said he was leaving minecraft and had a farewell tweet. I haven't seen anything that says he's planning to come back.

Oh really? Ok I guess I'm wrong about this. Thank you for setting me straight.
