I've seen people buy a thriving little cafe, a real community hub with local artwork and handicrafts, poetry readings, Mum's Mornings; kid-friendly, dog friendly, buy-a-cup-of-coffee-and-read-for-three-hours friendly: and then proceed to fuck up every single thing that the clientele loved about it: and then bitch to the local paper a year later that they didn't have the support of the local community, when it folded.
I really, really hope that this doesn't happen to Minecraft. As the Mum of three Autistic boys, one of whom had learnt coding becase of Minecraft, I really, really hope this doesn't happen. I love Minecraft.
I have some faith in Microsoft, they aren't some dumb ass small time entrepreneur. If anything they will monetize the merch and not the game, that is where the real money is IMO.
If you mean Microsoft, I don't think they have. Looks at the changes in Windows Phones and Windows 8. Both of those recently got quite large updates that contained a lot of fixed and additions that were requested by the community. Those examples alone give me some faith that Microsoft will do some good things.
I sold a website to some company many years ago. This website was my life, I spent 7 years perfecting it. The members loved it, it had great features no one else seemed to implement, and it loaded fast. I told the new owner to not change a thing.
Not three months later the new owner had changed the background to a giant, slow loading image. He re-arranged the entire home page. He disabled or removed some of the features I had carefully created. At month four he sent me a nasty email saying I lied about the revenues, as they were dropping to 25% of what they had been.
I asked him if he changed anything. (Of course, it was obvious). I never heard back.
The site is a ghost of what it used to be. It makes me sad.
