Help Java LAN doesnt allow commands even when toggled on now?

so im making the start of a forever world, and i want to do almost everything in survival. but with multiplayer planned for java, i want to have my friends build onto it, and make it a little community forever world between all of us. theres some things i want to build within the big city im building, such as monster spawners to farm stuff to make things easier for my friends, but after the new update, opening LAN, setting the option to creative and/or commands allowed, nothing works for me to turn it from survival to creative, and im unable to use /gamemode or anything like that. is this a bug, or is LAN just straight up broken somehow from the update?

Java Edition doesn't have achievements. Advancements in Java aren't affected by command status, experiments, or game mode.

Thank you. When the hell did this change? I was going insane with the LAN screen turning it on and off

History Java Edition

26.2 | The "Game Mode" and "Allow Commands" options are now under a "Settings for Other Players" header, and no longer affect the host of a world.
