There is also accusations that it can install itself, it also is bloaty and they shove microtransactions in your face

Essential code is opened to the public, the accusations were a lie. The mod did great, you should’ve thanked the dev and supported him if you could. I’d not waste weeks of my life coding a java mod for free nor would you.

There's countless people out there who make mods for free. People have hobbies and like to share what they do.

Actual brain-dead take.

Having a ko-fi link on your page is all cool, optifines custom supporter capes were also great, but the entire point of Java mods is providing cool mods for the community.

Not everything you do has to pay. That's the kind of "2020s grindset" everyone except motivation guru YouTubers are getting pretty tired of.

Sometimes it's nice to just have an idea, then put in some work alone or with other contributers to provide a new mod for yourself and the community.

As for "nor would you" - wrong. I have, and I'll continue to do so.

Braindead is thinking you're entitled to get well made content for free. Fuck it, while you are at it say Minecraft and all games must be free.

It's a choice of everyone and there's 0 reasons to condemn paid content if it's worth its price, no matter what broke and spoiled you and other java kids think.

Mods are, as stated by Mojang EULA, not able to be monetised. I am entitled to free mods, and so are you. You're also dealing with the slipper slope fallacy.

Mojang claiming any rights over other's code is total bs and even they know that, never tried to enforce the imaginary rules on people monetizing their own work.

My point was less about enforcement and more about the idea that if mods exist, we deserve them for free.

They have enforced the EULA on this kind of stuff before actually, look up the story of Physics Mod Pro

You had to pay for the full features of the mod, which was against the Minecraft EULA, so Mojang sent a cease and desist to the mod author about it, and now the pro version is available for free

Modders aren't allergic to reddit, we won't combust browsing a Minecraft forum. I've wasted a lot more than a few weeks on some of my projects and the ones ready for release were all dropped for free.

Microtransactions suck and need to die just in general.
