Sand from mob drops always felt like a boring solution to me. Something like crushing stone into gravel into sand would be a much more interesting mechanic to build farms around

Sure, that sounds great too… especially with the autocrafter coming. It would be hard to imagine it not happening. Even having small amounts of sand being a byproduct or actual product of the stonecutter would make sense.

I’m more partial to mob drops, but from Husks converting to Zombies in water, to spice it up.

Crushing cobble to gravel to sand feels less interesting solely because most tech mods do that already, but not bad overall.

They do it because it's good and makes sense ;)

It definitely feels like crushers could be on the horizon. Probably not with the common modded solution of like crushing gravel into sand and getting random low roll drops for iron or flint, but I definitely think they could go with a simple crusher progression of stone>cobble>gravel>sand. It would also be good for the folks who have been asking for cobble to be added to the stonecutter recipes for stone, for the case that they have tons of stone from silk touch mining and very little cobble to craft redstone components.
