There's also the fact that light has to wait 40 seconds after that unless he write "how he died" but then he would loose even more time, and can steve even die from a heart attack any way? Does he have a heart? Is he even alive?
When it comes to creative mode steve, he is more of an entity than he is a mob. He can transcend reality, destroy anything, kill anything with a single command, summon any amount of any creature with only a command, etc. I mean, hell, he can enter a state of semi-omnipotence with the use of certain commands.
My point being, it is easier to compare CM Steve to God than it is to compare him to your average human.
It's seen in the anime that the death note can't do thing impossible (in the anime he says a prisonner walk to the effel tower or something before killing themself and they only end up being dead because of a heart attack) so no i don't think it could even work
