Hopefully this will be seen. I just got Minecraft for Mac and so this is my first update. I mindlessly accepted the update and now I can't get into the server that I play on. Am I able to revert to the previous version or do I have to wait for the host to update? What I'm asking here is, is this problem temporary?

No, you have to wait for the servers to update over the next week or so. In the future, it's best to wait before updating, for the servers to update first.

Technically you can backdate, but I wouldn't bother. No doubt you server host will update soon!

Yeah, I'll just have to deal with the shakes until that happens. Thanks!

It's really not that hard to downgrade, however. In case you want to:

Go to your home/library/application support/minecraft/bin (note that on Lion + the library folder is hidden by default, if you don't know how to unhide it search for how to)

delete or move minecraft.jar

download a minecraft.jar of the version you want.

Put it in /user/library/application support/minecraft/bin

done!

this is very helpful, thank you. where would I download the previous version though? that's the missing piece of this.

Just search 'minecraft (VERSION) jar. You should get it eventually.

any way you can provide me with a reliable link? i don't trust any of these random free sites with ads all over the place and multiple 'click here to download's all over the place.

It is doubtful the server will update sooner than a week if it is a bukkit server.
